Job Title: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Youth For Unity And Voluntary Action (YUVA) has been working on the issues of urban and rural poor since 1984. Our interventions are directly at community level forming peoples organisations and their institutions. In addition to direct intervention programs we actively contribute to research, policy development and networking initiatives at the state, national and global levels. YUVA is accredited as an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) with General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Job description of the CEO, YUVA
· Ideological and value building
• To internalise and be committed to the values of YUVA
• To put in place systems and processes to ensure the common articulation, understanding, operationalising and monitoring of the organisation's core values (gender justice, social justice, honesty and integrity, democracy & secularism, environment sustainability).
• An understanding and core belief in human rights and processes.
·Vision building
• To build a synergy of vision of the entities and that of the whole.
·Strategy
• To provide framed conditions/ support whenever requested and to be available to every entity for clarification of strategy and vision
• To facilitate the process of content and strategy building of YUVA as a whole by interfacing with the entities.
·Synergy building
• To facilitate a process to evolve the common minimum agenda of YUVA across the YUVA entities and ensure implementation
• To set common financial, HR and OD and program systems across all entities
Governance roles
• To serve as the key operational link of the YUVA Board and the management.
• To bring necessary issues to the Board's attention for decision making and resolution.
• First port of call on all programmatic, personnel, ethical/value issues and conflict areas. Board remains the second port of call.
Training
• To develop and enhance programme and processes of YUVA as a training and capacity building institution
• To specifically build the profile and credibility of YUVA Centre as a human rights and training institution and build on the vision and programme of the YUVA Centre
• To build processes and systems to ensure the financial sustainability of the YUVA Centre
·Networking and alliance building
• To represent YUVA as a whole on networks and alliances.
• To articulate YUVA’s stands, positions and strategies local, national, regional and international forum.
·Advocacy and policy
• To undertake advocacy and policy initiatives on issues that are over and above entity specific issues and areas.
• To relate to a broad spectrum of political forums to ensure that YUVA’s point of view is represented.
·Organizational development and institutional building
• To support processes of institution building of YUVA entities and to build the YUVA Central office.
• To identify capacity building needs (stated and otherwise) and other OD interventions across entities and take specific action to address these needs.
• To continuously build YUVA’s credibility and identity with all stakeholders.
• To raise resources for the whole system. To stabilise institutional finances, and sharing of resources across systems in adherence to strategic plan.
·Management roles
• Setting performance benchmarks for the Executive Director of each entity , in collaboration with the Boards of each entity
• Financial monitoring and management of all YUVA funds
• Resource mobilization for YUVA corpus
• Creating and managing a programmatic MIS of the YUVA system
• Line management of all entities – programme, personnel and external relations.
Qualities & Experience
We are looking for a person with the ability to guide the development and implementation of the overall strategic plan of the organisation. The person would need to have a strong interest and experience in working on Urban, Rural and Tribal related issues; good orientation to advocacy and development work; high moral character; commitment to working in a team in a non-hierarchical and decentralised manner; ability to communicate and negotiate with authorities, decision makers, opinion makers, member organisations, NGOs ,CBOs, Civil society groups, private sector etc. S/he would need to also have a good understanding of group dynamics and provide inspiration with working experience in a comparable position in an organisation with similar objectives. S/he should be willing to travel both within and outside the country.
S/he should be between 35-45 years old, with a minimum of 10 years experience in senior positions/ capacities in development organisations. The salary offered will be nationally competitive.
