Welthungerhilfe,
originally founded in the sixties as the National Committee of the FAO
Freedom from Hunger Campaign and earlier called “German Agro Action”, is
a secular, non-profit, non governmental organization in the field of
international development cooperation and emergency aid, dedicated to
rural development, food security and eradication of root causes of
poverty. Since over 40 years Welthungerhilfe, with its headquarters in
Germany, supports voluntary and civil society partner organizations in

Context:
Welthungerhilfe is in the process of rolling out its National programme
called “Fight Hunger First Initiative – Realizing Rights and
Potentials of India’s Poor” to be implemented in five states of India
viz. Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Rajasthan in a
phased manner starting from 1st October 2011.
The Fight Hunger First Initiative is based on a rights-based approach
which believes that every person should have equal opportunities,
responsibilities and rights, including rights to food and education, and
right to participate in social, economic and political life as well as
access to services. The activities focus on capacity-building and
empowering local communities and by applying a transparent monitoring
system to measure effectiveness. Further a strong national and state
level advocacy campaign that would highlight key messages and issues
collated and verified from the field will be initiated. The main impact
areas of this National level programme would include a)
Increasing Food Security and Status of Commons; b) Mother and Child
Health c) Children completing Primary Education
This position will
require a strong background in providing technical support and capacity
building skills in the area of Nutrition to address the issues related to
malnutrition.
The overall
responsibility of the Nutrition Coordinator will be to a) provide
advisory support on Nutrition to partner organisations, b) build capacity
of partners’ staff and community level key stakeholders in the multiple
sectors such as Mother and Child health, Agriculture, Natural Resource
management and Primary Education and c) monitor performance with respect
to nutrition against the goals, objectives and targets in the five
states.
Main responsibilities:
1.
Provide technical advice
and field level support to Welthungerhilfe’s partners of Fight Hunger
First Initiative in five states;
2.
Coordinate projects and provide support to partners in implementing the
project activities, especially in strengthening and monitor them to
achieve clearly defined and measurable indicators;
3.
Undertake field level monitoring visits on a regular basis and bring out
well documented analytical monitoring reports of those visits;
4.
Prepare periodical progress reports to reflect achievement of project
targets, document lessons learnt and record project activities.
5.
Monitor the implementation
of strategies, plans and activities in the areas of Nutrition with the
main purpose of addressing malnutrition, IMR and MMR in the target
districts
6.
Will be responsible to
improve nutrition concerns in sectors such as Mother and Child health,
agriculture, Natural Resource Management and Primary Education and to
strengthen multi-sectoral coordination;
7.
Support partner
organisations in addressing gaps in service delivery at a community level
and build community based organisations to address malnutrition issues
8.
Coordinate with partner
organisations and other networks to advocate with concerned Government
line departments for better prioritization of nutrition issues and for
the effective implementation of existing programmes
9.
Facilitate sharing of
information on nutrition, both within and between sectors, including data
on nutrition, best practices, lessons learned amongst the partner
organisations and other Networks;
10.
Facilitate the
strengthening of monitoring on nutrition to ensure that nutrition
indicators are integrated into National level programme monitoring,
evaluation, and reporting frameworks and systems.
11.
Represent Welthungerhilfe
at different local, state and national level forums
Qualifications and
Experience:
·
Post graduate Degree in Food & Nutrition / Human Development/Public
Health along with professional work experience in working in a Rights
based approach for at least 7 - 10 years and knowledge and experience in
partner management and capacity building skills
·
Excellent spoken and written English and Hindi. Additional knowledge of
Bangla and Odiya will be an added advantage.
·
Skills and experience in community level interactions and capacity
building;
·
Proven ability to coordinate with Government line departments at state
and National level;
·
Knowledge of computer systems and applications, specifically knowledge
on statistics Software will be an added advantage;
Candidates with
less than required experience will not be considered for this position.
