JOB DESCRIPTION
ASSOCIATE, INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS 

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The International Communications Associate serves as a vital member of the International Communications Team, putting the building blocks in place for an innovative, dynamic program that supports advocacy organizations around the world, generates strategic media coverage in the international press, and plays a key role in the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use. 

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Manage media monitoring process and contract development in priority countries.
  • Administer contract development and approval under direction from senior staff.
  • Work collaboratively with web staff to update international website.  This includes drafting materials as assigned.
  • Research and compile monthly and quarterly reports on communications activities for internal and external audiences.
  • Maintain tracking tools of unit’s media activities.
  • Compile and maintain media lists, perform media research, and track media contracts.
  • Serve as a member of regional and country teams as assigned, contributing ideas for effective media advocacy and capacity building in countries and regions.
  • Contribute to international media efforts in support of the Campaign’s global policy objectives.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Draft, proof, and edit press releases and other media materials.
  • Field media calls and pitch stories as requested.
  • Perform research on media environment (e.g. media scans for tobacco coverage and research on top-tier media outlets) in priority countries.
  • Compile clips packages for select media initiatives.
  • Assist with the logistical details and other tasks associated with journalism training workshops in select countries.
  • Perform other duties as directed by International Press Secretary, Director, International Communications and Vice President, Communications.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and proficiency with a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and editing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while juggling multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization, both written and orally.
  • Knowledge of how to effectively use social media in a media advocacy campaign a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field.
  • Two (2) year’s communications/media experience.  Experience working at the international level and in cross-cultural settings preferred.
  • Proficiency in one or more foreign languages preferred.
