Oxfam is
an International confederation of 15 independent, non-governmental organizations
working together in 98 countries to achieve our vision of ‘a just world without
poverty’. Our Secretariat is based in Oxford, with advocacy and campaigns
offices in Washington DC, New York, Brussels, Geneva, Brasilia and a liaison
office with the Africa Union in Addis Ababa.
Oxfam
International is looking for a Pan-Africa Campaigner focusing on aid and
development finance. The post is a fixed-term 2-year contract (with possibility
of extension) and will be based in South Africa. Working on these issues for
approximately four days per week, the post-holder will lead on engagement with
key pan-African institutions, high profile individuals and key African
countries, working closely with other Oxfam colleagues and country/regional
teams, to further develop a strategy of advocacy, media and popular campaigning
work on aid quantity and quality, and development finance more broadly, within
the context of wider Oxfam campaigns and processes around the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs).
A second
part of the role (approximately one day per week) will involve working with the
leadership of the Oxfam International Essential Services Campaign which aims to
secure health and education for all. The post-holder will work with colleagues
to develop capacity and ensure coordination of Oxfam’s national and regional
campaigning on Essential Services in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The role
will help to drive Oxfam International organizational learning, as well as
cutting-edge campaign development and advocacy across a wide range of countries
and issues.
The
successful applicant will have:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to motivate,
influence and negotiate both internally and externally.
·
Strong track record of campaigning, communication and advocacy
work in an African context, ideally with pan-African institutions and processes
·
Track of working with and supporting campaigning in a national
context in developing countries, with a range of partners and stakeholders
·
Ability to think strategically and achieve results
·
Ability to work autonomously in a leadership role, with minimal
day-to-day management, whilst meeting the needs of a key range of internal and
external stakeholders
·
Strong interpersonal skills including good team work, and
experience of working in multicultural and virtual teams
·
Experience of project management, budgeting, monitoring,
evaluation and inter-organisation learning.
·
Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject / skill set - study
and experience of international development and related issues an advantage.
·
Commitment to the aims of Oxfam to end poverty and suffering
Fluency
in English required and competence in French and/or Spanish is desirable.
