International Policy and Campaigns Officer

Location: Head Office, London

Salary: £29,450 per annum
Hours: Full Time, 35 hours per week
The International Department is based at Leonard Cheshire Disability Head Office in London.
The International Policy and Campaigns Officer provides support to the International. Policy and Campaigns Manager in delivering Leonard Cheshire Disability’s policy advocacy and campaigning agenda. The role is responsible for researching and writing policy briefing papers relating to
disability and inclusive development, along with programme areas such as Support for Everyday Living (SEL), education and livelihoods. Developing contacts and establishing relationships with key policy makers in the UK, EU
and INGO’s is vital together with attending relevant policy events.
You will support the International Policy and Campaigns Manager and partners organisations with the production and distribution of films and other materials relating to the Young Voices global campaigning project. You will also oversee the coordination and monitoring of the EU funded project “Making Development Inclusive” project in partnership with IDDC and provide regular updates.
Applicants will be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline. Experience of working on international development policy in the UK and EU is essential along with excellent knowledge of UK government and EU institutions. An understanding of INGOs and coalitions is required as well as knowledge of international disability and development issues in the global South. Clear evidence of project monitoring and budget management is also important.
Candidates must be fluent in English with excellent communication and writing skills. Working knowledge of other EU languages is advantageous. Awareness of UN human rights instruments and experience working on issues related to the rights of people with disabilities is desirable. Event organisation skills would be beneficial.
