Director of Philanthropic Partnerships
Position: Full Time, Exempt

JOB SUMMARY
IDEX seeks a dynamic individual dedicated to increasing the financial resources available for ending poverty, promoting women's rights, and protecting the environment globally. The Director of Philanthropic Partnerships will work in partnership with the organization's Executive Director and Board to meet all revenue goals for the organization.


IDEX is a publicly-funded, social justice grantmaking foundation with a 25-year track record partnering with grassroots, community-based organizations around the world. Currently, IDEX supports 26 partners in six countries in Africa, Central America, and Asia. IDEX partners are implementing innovative strategies to end poverty and to promote environmental justice and human rights. IDEX's donors are progressive, thoughtful, and committed individuals and foundations.


The Director of Philanthropic Partnerships is responsible for raising the organization's budget of $1 million and for leading the fundraising strategy that will grow that budget guided by IDEX's 2011-2014 Growth Plan. This will include planning, implementing, and managing a comprehensive and diversified fundraising program in the areas of individual, major gift and diaspora giving; corporate sponsorship and in-kind contributions; legacy giving; and foundation fundraising. The development professional is a key member of the organization's management team; s/he reports and works closely with the Executive Director, has a close working relationship with the Board of Directors, and supervises the Manager of Communications and Public Outreach, as well as occasional part-time fundraising support staff, development interns and contract grant-writers.


Qualified candidates must have a minimum of five years of development experience in all aspects of fundraising, with an emphasis on major gifts and foundation fundraising. Experience with special events and corporate partnership is also desired. The ideal candidate will be effective on a strategic as well as operational level, have strong communication skills and an ability to prioritize diverse demanding responsibilities in a fast-paced, transformational and team-centered work culture. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 

Individual Giving:
* Set major gifts strategy and plan for retaining current major donors and attracting new ones
* Implement strategy and plan to grow donor base and increase donor giving and engagement
* Create planned giving opportunities for loyal donors
* Organize events, donor delegations and learning opportunities for donors
* Liaise effectively with philanthropic advisors and giving circles to increase sources of strategic investment
* Collaborate with staff and the IDEX Young Professionals Group in implementing marketing plan using direct mail and mass media campaigns Institutional Fundraising:
* Cultivate and secure grant funds from foundations
* Identify and develop innovative and quality proposals and reports to foundations
* Manage the timely submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry and reports
* Work in partnership with Director of Program Partnerships, Manager of Grassroots Alliances and Executive Director to to identify and maintain a pipeline of prospects
* Assist in preparation of proposals for strategic workshops at philanthropic conferences

* Disseminate the findings of IDEX¡¦s external evaluation in the institutional funding and philanthropic community
 

Leadership, Management and Strategy:
* Partner with staff and board to create and implement an annual fundraising plan which is diverse and meets the annual budgetary and growth plan needs of the organization
* Act as staff resource to the Board¡¦s External Affairs committee and manage external relationships
* Hire and supervise event planners, grant writers, interns and other consultants, as needed.
* Provide guidance to staff on gift processing: database entry, thank you letters and year-end tax receipts
* Work with management team on forecasting and revenue planning
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
 

Required
* Demonstrated ability to solicit and close five and six figure gifts from both individual and institutional donors.
* Well-informed about grassroots and strategic fundraising trends
* Ability to genuinely connect and build relationships with diverse groups of people including the board of directors, staff members and donors
* Excellent listening, public speaking and relationship building skills
* Excellent supervisory skills
* Well-developed creative writing and critical analysis skills
* Proven organizational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines
* Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including a sense of humor
* Interest in IDEX values of continuous learning and reflection; accountability; cultural competency and humility
* Deeply committed to strategic fundraising for grassroots organizations, civil society, social movements, and human rights
 

Preferred
- Fluency in a second language - preferably a language spoken in a country where IDEX work
- Ability to travel frequently to conferences, donor visits and partner visits - domestic and
international
- Adept in social media, online giving and other relevant information and communication
technology
- First hand grassroots experience in at least one of the IDEX countries and/or in marginalized
communities in the United States
- Familiarity with Salesforce database
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Min. 5 years progressively responsible experience in marketing, grassroots fundraising and fund
development
- At least 2 years of management experience including supervisory experience
- Bachelor's degree required. Master¡¦s degree preferred.

The salary range is competitive and depends on experience. IDEX offers excellent vacation and
