Investment Officer

At Horus Development Finance, consulting firm specialised in microfinance and SME finance in developing countries

Context
Horus Development Finance ( www.horus-df.com ) has acquired during the last 15 years considerable expertise in microfinance and SME finance by providing consulting services and technical assistance to microfinance institutions and microfinance banks (MFIs). As service provider working for major international donors, Horus has been involved in many capacity building programs seeking to strengthen the financial sector and promote micro and small enterprises development in emerging countries.

Since 2005 Horus Development Finance has been Manager of Advans SA SICAR, a regulated investment company specialized in microfinance (www.advansgroup.com) whose shareholders are major Development Finance Institutions (EIB, KfW, FMO, FISEA, IFC and CDC Group). Advans’ mission is to invest as lead shareholder in MFIs, especially start-ups. Horus Development Finance is also technical partner of the network of MFIs providing them with the support needed to grow into sustainable institutions. The Advans network presently comprises six financial institutions; ten more should join over the next five years in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Horus is recruiting an Investment Officer to support the development of the Advans network.

Role/Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Head of Investment Unit and take part in all activities linked to the management of Advans SA.

These include:
• Conduct feasibility studies and due diligence for target investments
• Prepare investment proposals: presentation of opportunity; five year financial forecasts and return for investors; analysis of legal and regulatory regime
• Presentation of investment proposals to Advans SA’s Investment Committee and Board
• Identification of potential co-investors to complete the shareholding structure and lead negotiations with co-investors on all legal documents with support from legal counsel
• Preparation and submission of licence application and liaison with local authorities
• Creation of the company in close contact with the various counsels (legal, tax, notary ...)
• Monitor Advans SA investments in the MFIs, specifically as director, and report to the Board of Directors of Advans SA

The job is based in Paris and involves short-term missions abroad.

Skills/Qualifications/Experience
• At least 5 years experience in the private equity sector or in microfinance in a position addressing strategic, financing and governance issues. Some legal negotiation experience will be an advantage
• Master's degree or equivalent from business school, engineering school or university
• Strong analytical skills
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to work autonomously
• Capacity and willingness to learn new skills quickly
• Strong interest in development issues
• Fluency in French and English (mother tongue or bilingual)
