SUMMARY
WfWI launched the “Commercial Integrated Farming Initiative”- Sudan (CIFI-S) in 2008 in Makernhoum, Pacong Payam, East Rumbek in the Lakes State of S. Sudan. The total land area is 90 hectares and is divided into sections and production units specifically; 1) a demonstration and training area and 2) an area for commercial production of crops and poultry. For the past 2.5 years the women producers have received training in various areas of commercial production. In this area of S. Sudan the select high value crops are mainly vegetables - cowpea, egg plant, collard greens, tomatoes, peppers, water melon, okra, kudura and amokebe. The farm also produces fresh eggs and is currently undergoing trials in sorghum, ground nuts and maize.
This is a challenging situation whereby this farm is a training/demonstration farm, as well as a business for commercial agricultural production. The graduates of the WfW-S program have begun the process of learning business, cooperative and management skills to form a farmer cooperative that will eventually take over partial or potentially full management of the farm in 2011. The potential candidate must have strong business skills, be hard working, able to work in a physically challenging climate and culture and be results oriented.

PURPOSE
Women for Women Sudan seeks to hire an experienced senior farm manger to manage all aspects of a commercial 90 hectare integrated farm that includes plant and animal systems, primarily poultry, cattle, vegetables and maize, sorghum and groundnuts. The Farm Manager is responsible for providing oversight and expertise in all aspects of farm business and management for a 90 hectare training/commercial farming operation. The candidate must have business savvy and experience in handling farm operations, broad production knowledge of plant and animal systems, supervising farm employees, marketing, managing buyer contracts, etc. Must have at least 10 years experience in managing a large commercial farm. Must be willing to live in rural area near East Rumbek, Sudan. The farm manager will be part of the CIFI management team which includes the CIFI Manager and IG Manager. The CIFI manager and Country Director will have final authority for the farm operations and the CIFI project throughout the life of the project.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with CIFI team to include but not be limited to:
• Establish production goals, and business plans
• Establish planting and harvesting schedules,
• Order and & mange inputs and supplies,
• Monthly reports: actual, year-to-date versus budgeted,
• Meet with team to revise budget,
• Discuss market trends,
• ensuring that farm activities comply with WfW-S goals & objectives;
• Sales & tracking data,

Manage the farm business to include but not be limited to;
• Planning finances and production to maintain farm progress against budgeted parameters,
• Keep financial records up to date,
• Data entry using Microsoft software for crop business planning,
• Monitoring and documenting all yields and land use to meet funding requirements;
• Track and mange quarterly expenditures,

Marketing management: business contacts & contracts to include but not limited to:
 Contact and liaise with buyers and end users,
 Market analysis,
 Manage buyer accounts,
 Manage product delivery; meet market deadlines;

Manage day to day farm operations to include but not be limited to;
 Establish employee work schedules,
 Oversee daily activities, e.g., operating machinery, feeding livestock, etc;
 Manage inputs and supplies such as fertilizer, feed , seeds, equipment parts;
 Arrange the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, generator, wells, machinery and equipment;
 Oversees health and safety standards for farm employees and participants,
 Track and manage daily expenditures,
 
Manage all farm operations to include but not be limited to:
 Maintaining and monitoring the quality of yield, whether livestock or arable crops, or vegetable beds;
 Implement contingency plans; flooding, drought conditions,
 Monitoring animal health and welfare;
 Solve and tract technical problems as they arise: pest infestation, diseases, etc.
 protecting the environment and maintaining biodiversity, safety standards of chemical use, proper disposal of waste products, proper storage of agrochemicals, farm machinery inputs, etc;

REQUIRED: This is a senior level position. Qualified candidates will have a degree in agriculture or related area. Education: Bachelors degree, preferably in agriculture or agribusiness specifically: farm business management and/or agribusiness or agriculture economics, and/or specialized technical area like: soil science, crop science, plant pathology, animal science, etc., and/or rural development. Five or more years experience in successfully managing the operations and marketing for a commercial integrated farm. Preference will be given to candidates that have a combination of college degree AND 5 year’s experience is Sudanese and speak the Dinka dialect. Must be willing to relocate to a rural area near East Rumbek, Sudan. This is a one year renewable contract.
 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Practical experience:
• Farm work experience is a significant asset, especially in vegetable, poultry and crop production,
• Training provided by agricultural youth groups
• Any agricultural certification, for example: post harvest technology, irrigation, soil testing, chemical use, organic production, etc
• Sudanese national preferred, knowledge of the Dinka dialect a plus, or relevant working experience in South Sudan, highly desirable,
• Spoken and written English fluency is an essential requirement,
• College education strongly preferred,
• At least five years business experience,
• Possess business acumen; have established a farm business or run a successful commercial farm,
• Ability to supervise, manage and motivate staff,
• General grasp of the broader issues in agricultural and rural development,
• Knowledge of basic production processes and principles of quality control,
• Knowledge of basic costing and profit and loss accounting and invoicing,
• Proficiency in office (Word, Excel) and the ability to communicate effectively by email in English.
