OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
UNITAID's mission is to contribute to the scale-up of access to treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis for people in developing countries by leveraging price reductions for quality drugs and diagnostics and accelerating the pace at which they are made available.

Description of duties:
To manage all Board related activities and be the dynamic interface between the Board, subcommittees and the Secretariat ensuring appropriate and effective governance processes. This position plays a role in building strong and sustainable partnerships with the Board to further the goals and vision of UNITAID. It also facilitates
the implementation of Board decisions.

Reporting to the UNITAID Executive Secretary, and working in close collaboration with all senior managers and especially the Director of Market Dynamics and Operations and the Director of Administration and Finance, the Board Relations Officer is responsible for facilitating efficient functioning of the Board.

The duties include :
- Anticipate critical issues and Board expectations on matters that will impact the UNITAID business and advise Secretariat on appropriate action.
- Ensure inclusion of Board perspective in preparation and planning for events and activities organized by the Secretariat.
- Provide professional, comprehensive and substantive support to the governance structures to ensure the smooth functioning and efficient management of these governing structures.
- Monitor effectiveness and suggest improvements in the Governance processes.
- Plan, coordinate, organize, support and in general ensure the smooth management and functioning of all Board related meetings and processes including Board meetings, Sub-committee meetings, all Board
preparatory meetings, Board retreats and the Consultative Forum.
- Liaise with Secretariat Focal Points to ensure high-quality Board-related documentation, briefings and presentations.
- Follow up and report on the implementation of Executive Board decisions and resolutions.
- Assist in developing and maintaining good communication channels between the Board and the Secretariat;
ensure Board concerns are rapidly communicated to relevant Secretariat teams for response.
- Assist with preparation of briefings and coordination of logistics concerning Board meetings of partners.
- Any other duties as required by Executive Secretary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Essential:
Advanced University Degree in management, governance, development, international relations, health or related field.

Desirable:
Education Qualifications in development, governance, or international policy would be an asset.

Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. Good understanding of strategic decision making.
Excellent writing and editing ability.
Strong presentation, facilitation and public speaking skills.

Other Skills:
Full Computer literacy with standard software programmes (especially Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Internet).

Experience:
Essential:
At least seven years of international multi-lateral experience and/or experience with governing bodies.
Proven track record of achievement in a similar role in the public and/or private sector.

Desirable:
Experience in managing a team of at least three to five staff.
Experience working with diverse stakeholders (governments, the UN system, civil society).
Experience in communicating and building relations in sensitive political environments.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English and working knowledge of French required.

Additional Information:
As a WHO staff member assigned solely and exclusively to support UNITAID, selected staff will have no right of reassignment or transfer outside UNITAID either during or at the end of his/her appointment, including pursuant to WHO Staff Rule 1050.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 66,482 at single rate
USD 71,393 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 75.9 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
