OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
UNITAID's mission is to contribute to the scale-up of access to treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis for people in developing countries by leveraging quality drugs and diagnostics price reduction, and accelerating the pace at which they are made available.

Description of duties:
The purpose of the position is to oversee the development and maintenance of the Market Intelligence Information System (MIIS) that links both product and public health data and makes information freely available to the public.

Summary of assigned duties:
- Oversee and manage the partners commissioned to develop and maintain the Market Intelligence Information System (MIIS);
- Develop a framework and systematic approach for the inclusion of new types of information into the MIIS;
- Coordinate and oversee the Technical Review Committee of the MIIS towards the establishment of data standards, data transfers, routine and novel data analyses, standardized queries and dissemination of market intelligence information to the general public;
- Liaise with partners, academics, and stakeholders to identify new data sources and expand utility of the MIIS to support UNITAID's proposal and project development processes;
- Conduct continuous quality improvement (including user surveys) of the MIIS to identify areas for improvement and to ensure information in MIIS is current, valid, reliable, and useful;
- Conduct regular analyses of market dynamics to monitor the demand and supply sides of markets for medicines (including active principle ingredients), diagnostics, and related products for HIV/AIDS, TB, and
malaria;
- Conduct regular systematic gray and literature reviews on use of informatics and data sharing as a means of supporting global public health initiatives and forward key findings to Knowledge Management Officer;
- Identify and report on the supply side of the market including, new market entrants, new products, prequalification and registration status and products in the development pipeline;
- Provide input and technical assistance to the Programme Monitoring Officer for market dynamics indicators;
- Participate in the design and conduct of project evaluation;
- Draft and edit reports, briefs, talking points, peer-reviewed publications, and oral presentations;
- Participate in the development and delivery of training sessions and in-services on market dynamics;
- Contribute to the development of materials for board and committee meetings;
- Represent UNITAID at key meetings and events related to market dynamics;
- Perform any other activities as required by the Coordinator of Market Dynamics.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Essential: Advanced university degree in public health, epidemiology, sciences, statistics, or other related field.

Desirable: Advanced university degree or certification in information management, information technology, or related field. Advanced training in pharmacy. Coursework or training in economics, business, marketing, or other related field.

Skills:
Knowledge of international organizations and their work in the area of market dynamics and HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. Strategic analyst and thinker. Strong project management skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Effective at coordination, negotiation and facilitation among multiple organizations.
Computer literacy with emphasis on development of databases and information dissemination. Expertise with analytic software (SAS, SPSS, Stata, etc).

Experience:
Essential: At least 10 years experience of project and data management. Experience in establishing data standards and transfers. Experience building, maintaining and using primary and secondary data sources to examine impacts of public health policies and programs. Experience in managing information from both qualitative and quantitative research. Experience conducting research related to pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, or other health commodities. Experience working in the areas of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, or malaria. Experience
in building extensive professional networks across multidisciplinary stakeholders. Publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Desirable: Experience working in the WHO or UN system. Experience working in the pharmaceutical industry.
Experience working with SQL and web programmers. Experience in programme monitoring and evaluation.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English with a working knowledge of French desirable.

As a WHO staff member assigned solely and exclusively to support UNITAID, selected staff will have no right of reassignment or transfer outside UNITAID either during or at the end of his/her appointment, including pursuant to WHO Staff Rule 1050.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$79,537 at single rate
US$85,615 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 75.9 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
