Welthungerhilfe, originally founded in the sixties as the National Committee of the FAO Freedom from Hunger Campaign and earlier called “German Agro Action”, is a secular, non-profit, non governmental organization in the field of international development cooperation and emergency aid, dedicated to rural development, food security and eradication of root causes of poverty. Since over 40 years Welthungerhilfe, with its headquarters in Germany, supports voluntary and civil society partner organizations in rural India, at present more than 35 project partners in nine states ( www.welthungerhilfe-southasia.org ).

Job Title: Project Coordinator

Location: New Delhi
Term: 2 years (fixed)
Reports to: Programme Manager
Salary: in par with other development organisations

Context: Welthungerhilfe is looking for a Project Coordinator for its EU (European Union) co-funded programme titled ` Empowering Women: Access and ownership over land and land based activities through education, legal literacy and advocacy in rural India’. The two Specific objectives of the project are 1) to increase literacy including functional and legal literacy among dalit and tribal women and 2) to increase access to and control over property, income and natural resources in four states of India viz. Orissa, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand.

This position will require excellent skills in national level advocacy and networking skills combined with an ability and willingness to undertake significant field travel for quality engagement with partner NGOs, relevant government departments, Universities, academicians and media working in the field of Gender, women literacy and land rights.

Main responsibilities:
• Will be mainly responsible to support partners in implementing the project activities and monitor them to achieve clearly defined and measurable indicators in close coordination with the Programme Manager and the partner organisations;

• Facilitate training and capacity building of partners in the areas of Process Documentation, Participatory approaches, Participatory Review and impact monitoring, Women’s rights, adult literacy techniques, networking and other relevant areas in order to implement the project activities effectively;

• Undertake wider level knowledge sharing and advocacy on women’s land rights and right to literacy in close collaboration with the implementing partners;

• Conceptualise and facilitate National/state level public hearings, theme based workshops, campaigns and networks on women’s issues in collaboration and consultation with Partner organisations;

• Support partners in strengthening ‘Women Resource Centres’ to address women’s right to literacy and property;

• Coordinate with government organizations, civil society institutions, other non-government organizations, media and other institutions;

• Provide content support to Communication and Documentation officer in managing and maintaining a Gender specific webpage of Welthungerhilfe-southasia website;

• Prepare periodical progress reports to reflect achievement of project targets, document lessons learnt and record project activities.

• Support and guide the development of documents, good practices and other learning materials to ensure visibility and dissemination of programme achievements;

• Represent Welthungerhilfe at different local, state and national level forums

Qualifications and Experience:

• Post-Graduate degree in Social Sciences / law / women’s studies with excellent communication skills in Hindi and English with at least 10 to 12 years experience of which 5 years managing projects on women’s issues at a state / national level, combined with a proven experience in undertaking National level advocacy initiatives;

• The position requires a strong passion for action in Women’s literacy and land rights issues, commitment to participatory development, and an interest in building community based institutions with an ability to work in a challenging environment;

• Ability to connect to the issues of women at the grass root and to address them appropriately through quality partner dialogue;

• S/ he will be required to spend approximately 12 days each month at the field level in guiding and monitoring the project activities;

• Should have strong report writing skills with knowledge of Log Frame Analysis, impact monitoring and PRA tools.

• Candidates should have a strong background in development studies, networking, running campaigns, and building linkages;

• Exposure and experience in managing and guiding a webpage will be desirable;

• Candidates with experience in handling EU reporting systems will be an added advantage.
