Position Title: Country Coordinator Moçambique
Contract Type: Fixed term appointment (min. three years)
Place of Assignment: Chiure, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique (with frequent dislocations to Pemba)
Purpose of the position:
To direct and coordinate the SolidarMed program in Moçambique
To ensure coordination with partners, donors and stakeholders
To support policy dialogue, operational research and knowledge exchange
To oversee the institutional development of SolidarMed Moçambique
Description of the SolidarMed program:
Together with its Government and civil society partners, SolidarMed implements a thriving program in the Province of Cabo Delgado. It is composed of four pillars:
1) HIV prevention and treatment in the Districts of Chiure and Ancuabe: HIV Testing, ART, PMTCT, Home Based Care. Main focus of the upcoming phase is PMTCT.
2) Maternal and Neonatal Health in the Districts of Chiure and Ancuabe: Health system strengthening, community mobilization and operational research. The project will start in January 2011.
3) Community empowerment for health in Chiure, Ancuabe and Pemba. The project works with rural communities on a variety of health topics in a participatory manner and is about to become a National organization.
4) Smaller initiatives such as bed net distribution, conditional cash transfer or strategies to increase institutional births.
Besides its vision to improve the health of the population, SolidarMed aims at capitalizing its initiatives, informing public health dialogue and contributing to policy development. Core competences of SolidarMed are: Health Systems, HIV, Malaria, Maternal and Child Health, Community Initiatives.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
· Assume the overall direction of the program and contribute to its further development
· Coordinate the program components, ensure development of synergies
· Ensure the professional use of PCM tools
· Represent SolidarMed towards partners, stakeholders and SolidarMed employees
· Provide strategic and public health coaching to project managers and promote the use of evidence based best practices
· Steer the documentation, analysis and communication of lessons learnt, support the linking with competence networks; facilitate the development and implementation of operational research initiatives
· Ensure the smooth functioning of the SolidarMed support unit (which is directed by a full time administrator in charge of logistics, human resources, finances and administration) and orient the further institutional development of SolidarMed Moçambique
To best fit into our active, interdisciplinary team we expect the following qualifications:
· Health professional (e.g. physician, nurse, epidemiologist, health economist) with a strong public health background and postgraduate training (MPH, PhD…)
· Proven public health working experience in a senior position, ideally in Africa
· Sound leadership and program management experience
· Strong intercultural sensitivity and a high degree of social competence
· Proven ability of successful networking, working under pressure and assuming responsibilities. Ability to assume a leadership position in a team with flat hierarchies.
· You are dynamic and you develop initiatives
· Ability to live and work in a very rural context of absolute poverty
Language skills
· Fluent English and Portuguese (written and spoken)
· German would be an asset
