Policy Advisor (education)
£34,000 or part-time equivalent
Based: Haywards Heath with regular international travel
The role of the policy team within Sightsavers is to develop analysis by bringing together information from the external policy environment with evidence from Sightsavers (health, disability, education, social protection) relevant to the wider development community.
You will engage with relevant policy fora and generate policy briefs and papers, build relationships with civil servants, international institutions, government and other NGO policy-makers. You will conduct or support policy research and work with the Global Advocacy Team to develop the capacity of the organisation in policy work overall.
You will have a particular focus on inclusive education, leading policy work on the effective inclusion of disabled children, particularly visually impaired children, within quality mainstream education. You will work with relevant programme staff to ensure our policy work is rooted in our programmes and our / our partners' experience.
To take on this challenge, you will need experience in the international development sector, and to be able to demonstrate an understanding of relevant and current development issues. You will have academic and research skills, experience in writing and researching policy briefings and the necessary communication and networking skills to present your research to different audiences.
You must be willing to undertake up to 8 weeks overseas travel per year for research, briefing and training purposes.
