Director: Maternal and Child Health/ Nutrition, India

PATH is a US-based international nonprofit organization with the mission to improve the health of people around the world by advancing technologies, strengthening systems, and encouraging healthy behaviors. PATH’s India program is based in New Delhi with sub-offices in Bhopal, Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Mumbai.


PATH in India has developed a diverse portfolio of public health programming in the fields of immunization, infectious and vector-borne diseases, health technology commercialization, vaccine development and introduction, HIV and sexual and reproductive health, and maternal and child health/ nutrition. PATH maintains a diverse base of funding in support of its work in India that includes bilateral and multilateral donors as well as several private foundations.

PATH has a growing portfolio in Maternal and Child Health/ Nutrition (MCHN) projects. One of the major projects in the portfolio is – Sure Start that aims to reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Sure Start works in partnership with lead nongovernmental organizations in seven districts of Uttar Pradesh and seven urban cities of Maharashtra to improve maternal and newborn health through community action, strengthened systems and institutional capabilities. The second project “The Oxytocin Initiative: Maximizing Safe Use” – aims to explore the feasibility of enabling mid-level health care staff to provide injectable oxytocin for prevention of postpartum hemorrhage in peripheral health facilities and during skilled attendance of home-based births. One of the important components of this initiative is to conduct a landscape review which explores and reports the current use of uterotonics at or around birth in two districts of both Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.


PATH seeks applications to recruit a Director: Maternal and Child Health/ Nutrition in India. The position is based at Delhi and responsible for providing strategic directions, technical inputs, overall management, program development, evaluation, external relations and development of project proposals. The position reports to the Country Program Leader, India.
 

Responsibilities of the Director: Maternal and Child Health/ Nutrition in India shall include:
• Responsible for managing the current portfolio of projects under MCHN in India and contributing to the strategy and development of future work.
• Serve as a member of the Senior Management Team and provide regular updates on the project.
• Translate PATH vision and strategy for the MCHN program in collaboration with Sure Start state teams in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
• Oversee teams working in the areas of maternal health, newborn and child health, nutrition, and monitoring and evaluation, to ensure consistency among the management, administrative and financial teams including extensive travel to the respective states.
• Provide general project leadership and oversight on key MCHN efforts, including project planning, implementation, and evaluation, ensuring the quality of program and project outputs to be distributed outside of PATH.
• Work with the state team leaders on personnel issues, including recruiting, hiring, retention, and conflict resolution. Ensure that teams maintain an ongoing focus on overall project impact and foster thinking in terms of an international organization.
• Provide regular formal updates to the global team leader in headquarters (Seattle).
• Enhance synergies with other programs and advise the Senior Management Team on relevant key technical issues.
• Provide technical inputs in development of project proposals in the areas of MCHN.
• Ensure that the projects have appropriate monitoring and evaluation plans in place and that expected results are clear, measurable, and consistent with project guidelines.
• Foster clear communications about project activities between global team leader; Country Program Leader and the State Managers.
• Support effective collaborations/partnerships with other NGOs and agencies.
• Identify and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders.
• Serve as an interface between the global team leader and the country program to submit timely and accurate reporting to the donor as per the work plan and timeframe.

Required Experience
Masters degree in medicine/ gynecology/ obstetrics/ public health or any relevant discipline with 10 years of managerial experience in community based intervention of Reproductive and Child Health/ Maternal and Child Health or similar public health programs.
International recognized experience in maternal child health and nutrition.
