Last Date: April 26, 2010

Global Advisers – Climate Change Adaptation (Oxfam GB)

Climate change is happening. And it’s seriously affecting the lives of those living in poverty. At Oxfam, we’re working with governments and communities to help those people adapt to the changes taking place all around them, so they can protect their lives and their livelihoods.

Global Adviser – Climate Change Adaptation
£33,700 - £41,710 pa+ benefits (1 year fixed-term contract)
Oxford, with around 3 months travel annually
Pending confirmation of funding

Funding is in the pipeline to support six of our country programmes with ambitious climate change adaptation initiatives. You’ll come in to provide them with intensive support, helping them develop detailed programme plans built upon the aims and objectives set out in initial project proposals. You will help build the capacity of Oxfam and partner organisation’s staff to implement and monitor the projects, and support reporting on the way money is spent. It’s a 12 month contract that is vital to making these initiatives a success. Though there will be a clear focus on delivery, you’ll also have the chance to influence Oxfam’s thinking and future direction. Ref: C&P509

Global Adviser – Climate Change Adaptation (Programme Development)
£33,700 - £41,710 pa + benefits (2 year fixed-term contract)
Oxford, with around 3 months travel annually

Here, you’ll take a strategic view of all of the climate change adaptation work in our country programmes, then identify and deliver funding opportunities that provide the spur for further climate change adaptation work. It’s a 2-year contract, again with a focus on delivery, that will see you supporting teams to develop high-quality programme analysis, plans, and funding concept notes and proposals. You’ll work closely with country teams help design project proposals, and support various fundraising teams to identify potential institutional and corporate donors, and draft grant applications. You’ll also provide input into strategic organisational processes, to our external policy work, and represent Oxfam externally. Ref: C&P509

What we’re looking for
To rise to the challenge in either of these roles, you’ll need to be someone who can hit the ground running. Someone who understands the current effects of climate change and the impact that it’s forecast to have on those living in poverty. We expect you’ll have a post-graduate qualification in climate change, development or a related field. You’ll need to have a clear understanding of climate change policy, along with practical experience of developing and implementing climate change adaptation programmes. But every bit as important will be your talent for building relationships. A natural communicator - and ideally fluent in French, Spanish or Portuguese as well as English – you’ll be able to adapt your style to a wide range of audiences. For the 2-year contract a track record in project design is also essential. Chances are you’ll already be working in the NGO sector. Whatever your background you’ll be committed to Oxfam’s aims of reducing poverty and suffering, and promoting basic human rights.

About Oxfam
A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. And it’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. At Oxfam we believe that with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
