KMAD Coordinator
Contract: 12 months: unaccompanied
Location: Tupuito, Moma, Mozambique
Reporting to: Kenmare Country Manager

Context
The Kenmare Moma Development Association works with seven villages in a 10 km radius of the Moma Titanium Minerals project in rural northern Mozambique. Mozambique is the 5th lowest ranking country on the UNDP’s Human Development Index and this area is among the poorest and most disadvantaged parts of Mozambique. The Association works closely with the communities in livelihood, health and education projects designed to improve the quality of life for the 10,000 people in the catchment.

KMAD is funded largely by Kenmare Resources plc and the Association has support and commitment at the most senior level in the company. Due to personnel changes, KMAD is now seeking an outstanding and energetic individual to bring it to the next level. There is a small team of one field coordinator and two field officers. Additional support is provided by the operational staff of the Mine. This job offers a unique combination of field work and strategic management.

Role & Responsibilities
• Complete review KMAD organization. Review operational procedures and improve auditing practices.
• Work with Kenmare Country Manager to train the permanent KMAD Coordinator.
• To carry out a mid-term review of the KMAD five year plan
o Pick priority areas for action and revitalization and drive those forward
o Review current projects and determine what measures can be taken to make them more independent, sustainable and self-sufficient
• To support and manage the daily activities of the KMAD projects and be the main contact point for implementing partners
• Ensure the construction of the health centre currently underway is delivered on time and on budget
• Make plans for expanding KMAD activities into new areas the mine will shortly be expanding into
• Hold monthly meetings of the KMAD Advisory Council
• Submit weekly and monthly progress reports

Person Characteristics
• Self-reliant individual
• 2-3 years experience in a development role ideally in livelihoods
• Portuguese an advantage; written English essential
• Full, clean driving licence

Conditions
• Salary Negotiable depending on experience
• All living costs – food, accommodation, utilities – are covered
• Health insurance provided
• R&R: as this is a one year contract, 6 weeks on 2 weeks off
• KMAD to cover cost of flights to Johannesburg every 6 weeks and one flight to point of hire per year
• While in a very remote location, Tupuito is located on the Indian Ocean coast and is a clean, beautiful and safe place in which to work, with the main risk being malaria – antimalarials are strongly advised. There is mobile phone coverage, internet, electricity, hot running water and a well-staffed and resourced health clinic in the mine camp. The nearest city is Nampula, 250km away.
