Consultant (Econometrics)

Are you passionate about numbers and econometrics excites you? Are you planning to do a PhD in near future, but before that, you want to get work experience and publications? Are you interested in rural development and agricultural issues in South Asia? If your answer is yes to all the above questions, then you are the person we are looking for.

International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is looking for a Consultant (Econometrics) based in IWMI New Delhi office. This is a fixed duration position of one year starting October 2011. Competitive all-inclusive salary will be offered to the right candidate. You will work on an ongoing impact evaluation project. You will be also required to provide data analysis assistance to other researchers.

Essential qualifications:
1. A Masters in Economics with a specialization in Econometrics from a reputed University.
2. One to three years of experience in working with a research organization. However, fresh graduates with strong econometric skills may also apply.
3. An excellent understanding of cross section, time series and panel data analysis techniques. The candidate must have used some or all of these in their Master’s thesis or as a part of previous research assignment.
4. High level of competency in database management and econometric packages such as STATA, SAS, R or SPSS.
5. Excellent writing and communication skills to be supported by either published or unpublished papers and/or presentations made at conferences.

Desirable qualifications
1. A broad understanding of land and water management issues as they relate to food security and climate change in South Asia.
2. Experience of handling large data bases such as those of NSSO of India or those generated through primary surveys.
3. Experience of conducting questionnaire surveys.
4. Self-driven and motivated and ability to work with least amount of supervision.

1. Your updated CV with full list of publications
2. Up to three pieces of published/unpublished papers. It may be term papers/essays done as a part of your coursework
3. Three reference letter, of which at least one has to be from teacher/supervisor who has taught you econometrics and another from past employer, if any.
