BACKGROUND

IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, is now looking to
recruit a Coordinator, Mangroves for the Future (MFF), Asia who will be based in
Bangkok, Thailand. The Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the work and
further development of the Secretariat, ensuring that it operates efficiently
and effectively in relation to the activities and outputs set out in the MFF
Phase 2 programme.
Launched in December 2007, Mangroves for the Future (MFF) is a multi-agency,
multi-country initiative for the long-term conservation and sustainable
management of coastal ecosystems such as mangroves, coral reefs, wetlands,
forests, lagoons, estuaries, beaches and sandy shores. MFF provides a platform,
which brings together the efforts of different countries, sectors and agencies
under a common goal -to conserve and restore ecosystems to sustain human
livelihoods, increase resilience and reduce vulnerability among coastal
communities. The initiative involves collaboration between multiple partners,
including government agencies, NGOs and CBOs, research institutes and
universities, UN agencies and other multilateral bodies, and the Private Sector.
MFF Phase 2 places priority on capacity development at national level, while
demonstrating the added value of taking a regional approach through initiatives
to address common or emerging issues, particularly those related to climate
change.
The salary for this position is in the range of USD 5'102 to USD 6'378 per month
depending on the years of experience and qualifications of the candidate with
comprehensive international health & life insurance, and other benefits.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Providing oversight and coordinating the work of the Regional Secretariat for
the Mangroves for the Future (MFF) initiative, including supervision of full
time and temporary staff;

Managing and reporting on the utilization of financial resources with due
probity and oversight;
-
Ensuring administrative and technical support is provided to the Regional
Steering Committee (RSC) of MFF;
-
Acting as a focal point between IUCN and governments of the countries involved
in MFF and support capacity development at national level through the regional
cooperation framework of MFF;
-
Facilitating and coordinating the provision of external technical assistance
to MFF projects and the RSC;

Overseeing the review and quality assurance of technical outputs from MFF.
REQUIREMENTS
-
At
least 10 years of professional experience in a subject relevant to natural
resources management/sustainable development, preferably in tropical coastal
zones and/or coastal and marine ecosystems with at least 5 years of senior
management experience;

Masters degree or Ph.D. in a subject related to conservation and development;

Should have demonstrated technical expertise in planning, implementation,
monitoring and reporting of large, multi-partner, regional programmes and
projects. Should also have proven ability of writing grant proposal,
fundraising and financial management;

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to lead
multicultural and multidisciplinary teams and inspire staff and partners;

Strong personal diplomacy and discretion;

Ability to cope with varied workload and flexible working hours;

Proficiency in MS Office(Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)is a must;

Previous working experience with an international or inter-governmental agency
is a distinct advantage and;

The position would require frequent travel across Asia.
