Ireland is committed to supporting development in Tanzania and we have been engaged in development co-operation partnership with the Government of Tanzania since 1975. Our current programme includes support for in agriculture, health, and nutrition along with General Budget Support to the Government.

The Embassy of Ireland/Irish Aid now wishes to recruit three qualified and experienced professionals, a Health Advisor, a Nutrition Advisor and an Economic Advisor to join its dynamic advisory team.


Health Advisor
The Health Advisor will be expected to provide technical support to management and to collaborate with Government, civil society, UN and other development partners to achieve specific health objectives as agreed in the sector strategy. The role will involve working with range of approaches and tools for capacity building, planning, monitoring and evaluation of programmes in the health sector. Specific areas of focus include maternal and child health; human resources for health; health systems strengthening; and governance.
 

Applicants will need to demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of national and local public health systems and civil society and private sector support for the national health sector strategy in Tanzania.


Specifically the following qualifications and competencies are required:
• a relevant post graduate qualification;
• a minimum four years relevant experience with policy engagement and planning at national and district level and working with development partnerships;
• capacity and experience in the analysis, management and synthesis of varied quantitative and qualitative data.
 

Nutrition Advisor
The Nutrition Advisor will be expected to provide technical support, in the area of hunger, food security and nutrition to management at the Irish Aid office in Tanzania and in Ireland. The Advisor will also support Ireland’s commitment to the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) in Tanzania.


Applicants will need to demonstrate a strong competency in the areas of food and nutrition responses and a well established track record of good performance.
 

Specifically the following qualifications and competencies are required:
• a post-graduate qualification in Nutrition, Public Health, or other development related disciplines relevant to the requirements of this post;
• a minimum of four years experience working in the field of nutrition in developing countries, preferably in Africa. It is desirable that at least 3 of these years will have been spent working in a senior level with a locally based or international organisation responding to food insecurity and under-nutrition.


Economic Advisor
The Economic Advisor will be expected to provide technical and analytical support to the Embassy on the General Budget Support (GBS) programme, including Public Financial Management, and to provide economic advice and analysis in sector areas of health, agriculture and nutrition. The Advisor will coordinate and support the Embassy team in policy dialogue around GBS and develop an Embassy position on key issues for the GBS Annual Review.


Applicants will need to demonstrate a strong competency in Economics and a well established track record of good performance and excellent communication skills.


Specifically the following qualifications and competencies are required:
• a post-graduate qualification in Economics, or other development related disciplines relevant to the requirements of this post;
• a minimum of four years experience working in a similar role, including experience with public financial management, public expenditure reviews, fiscal decentralisation and budget support processes;
• knowledge and experience of Tanzania and how the budget works from within the government will be an added advantage.
 

All three positions require:
• fluency in English and Kiswahili, and a very high standard of English writing skills;
• excellent communications and influencing skills;
• ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
 

Conditions of employment:
The successful candidates will be based in the Embassy of Ireland, Dar es Salaam and may be required to undertake in-country and international travel.
