Background
Georgetown University's Institute for Reproductive Health (IRH) addresses global reproductive health and family planning issues through a research-to-practice agenda. Our emphasis is on fertility awareness-based methods of family planning (particularly the Standard Days Method® [SDM] and the TwoDay Method® [TDM]); fertility awareness for youth as an approach to empowering them to make healthy decisions; and strategies to improve the quality of HIV/AIDS services by reducing stigma and discrimination. The Institute partners with a wide range of organizations both globally and in the countries in which we work, conducts research, builds capacity, and provides technical assistance to public and private-sector organizations in developing countries and the U.S.

IRH is currently seeking a Family Planning Technical Specialist in a joint USAID funded project located in Timor Leste. All interested candidates can send their CVs to irhresumes@gmail.com for consideration, with the title of the position you are applying to in the subject line.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The FP Technical Specialist will lead key family planning activities integrated across the National, District and Sub-district, and Community levels of the Timor Leste health system. The two complementary goals of this position will be to 1) build local capacity to deliver quality family planning interventions at all levels of the Timor Leste health system and 2) to support building demand for and knowledge of these interventions within communities. S/he will be responsible for implementing family planning elements of the Timor Leste BSP, including facilitating and conducting trainings for family planning activities. Human capacity-building will be an important focus of this position’s activities, including ensuring incorporation of Family Planning best practices and effective knowledge management of these practices across project implementation areas, and identification of capable local staff to assume future FPTS role. S/he should also be knowledgeable in Maternal, Neonatal and Child health.

Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in public health or a related field
• Minimum 10 years experience with family planning programs, as applied to developing country health systems
• Proven clinical skills and practical experience in family planning
• Excellent/proven cross-cultural facilitation and training skills
• Experience with USAID funded projects
• Demonstrated ability to lead and work collegially with other technical staff, experts, and with counterparts from the public, private and NGO sectors
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Superior supervision and mentoring skills
• Knowledge of written and spoken Tetum, Portuguese, and/or Bahasa Indonesian is a plus
• Ability to work with diverse ethnic groups with respect and sensitivity
