Post Title: Research Officer, EFA Global Monitoring Report

Main responsibilities:
The annual Education for All Global Monitoring Report (GMR) is the worlds foremost publication on
education. It monitors progress towards the Education for All (EFA) goals agreed at the World Education
Forum in Dakar (Senegal) in 2000, identifies promising education policies, and analyzes a major theme.
The GMR is seeking to recruit a Research Officer.
Under the authority of the Director and the supervision of the Senior Policy Analyst of the EFA Global
Monitoring Report, he/she will:
Provide analysis and syntheses of documentation on selected themes
Undertake research for specific sections of the Report
Provide quantitative analyses as required in the preparation of the Report
Assist in commissioning and managing external researchers and experts to carry out specific
research studies
Prepare written material for designated sections of the Report to first draft standard
Support the editing of final version of the Report
Communicate the Report in public fora
Profile:
Postgraduate university degree (Master or equivalent) in one of the following fields: education,
economics, politics, development studies or other social science discipline
At least 4 years of professional experience as a researcher and/or analyst in the field of education
and development
Strong analytical, quantitative and drafting skills in English
Record of publications
Demonstrated capacity to be innovative and to work under tight deadlines
Ability to maintain effective working relations within a multi-cultural setting and to work effectively in
team environment
Excellent knowledge of English; good knowledge of other UN working language is an asset
Excellent IT skills to carry out the work
Direct practical experience of work in a national education system, a non-governmental programme
or a development agency would be a particular advantage.
Remuneration: UNESCO salaries are calculated in US dollars. They consist of a basic salary and a post
adjustment which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates. It corresponds to
an estimated annual salary of approximately 107,465 USD with dependant and 100,272 USD without
dependant.
