Economic Development Initiatives (EDI) Ltd is a research consultancy working in international development. We have recently launched CWEST™ (Capture with Enhanced Survey Technology), an exciting new software product for conducting large scale international development surveys around the world.
EDI now seeks a Survey Expert to support our clients in the preparation and implementation of high-value large scale research surveys on mobile technology using CWEST™ Software.
EDI works with high profile development clients such as the World Bank, Millennium Challenge Corporation and national governments in co-developing large scale socio-economic surveys and delivering them through CWEST™ on mobile technology. You will use your survey expertise to support our Clients as they move from paper based questionnaires to electronic questionnaires (PAPI to CAPI). You will guide and support them through the cultural, procedural and management changes that they require to successfully implement their survey using mobile technology, and support them in setting up and managing their survey.
You will guide our clients through the design and configuration of their questionnaires in CWEST™, as well as carrying out some hands-on configuration of CWEST™. Once the CWEST™ software is configured, you will work hand-in-hand with the client in piloting the CWEST™ application, training the survey team and providing ongoing support to survey managers throughout the survey.
You will also have the opportunity to provide survey expertise to our sister company in Tanzania who carries out multiple large scale socio-economic data-collection projects using CWEST™ technology. You will use your expert international development survey knowledge to play a leading role in survey design, sampling methodology, instrument design and testing, and review of data quality and preparation of final data-sets.
This exciting role will provide the opportunity for significant international travel within developing countries and often in remote areas.
A successful applicant should have a postgraduate degree in Statistics, Economics, Development Economics or similar, and a minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience, ideally in the field of international development research. In addition, the applicant must possess:
• Significant experience in Survey Design;
• Familiarity with listing exercises and two-stage random sampling;
• Experience of data collection developing countries;
• An excellent knowledge of data-entry and analysis programmes; (CSPRO, STATA etc)
• Experience with CAPI would be advantageous;
• Experience in analysis of data from developing countries;
• Strong communication skills;
• Excellent written and presentation skills;
• Ability to work within a multi-cultural team;
• A proven ability to meet tight deadlines and willingness to work flexible hours;
• A strong attention to detail;
• An enthusiasm for international travel to developing countries
• High grasp of standard Microsoft software programmes and a high level of familiarity and comfort with use of technology
Working arrangement:
The position is full time and is based at EDI’s offices in High Wycombe (town centre), an easy commute from central London. Whilst the role is initially office based, there will be an opportunity for the employee to split their work between their home and the office. International travel is also required and the applicant must have the legal right to work in the UK.
