The Children's Nutrition Program of Haiti

This is a unique opportunity for you to lead a long-established program in Haiti in immediate response to the earthquake and in achieving our long-term mission to help raise a healthy generation of Haitian children. The Childrenˇ¦s Nutrition Program of Haiti has always focused on building the capacity of Haitians to help Haitians. We are scaling up our nutrition and health programs following the quake, and we are looking for an executive director to lead the organization who is a visionary but who can focus on details as well. The executive director will be based in Chattanooga, TN. Frequent travel to Haiti and occasional travel in the US will be required. Competence in French or Creole is preferred. We have a great team in place to support you as you provide strategic leadership in all elements of program development, personnel supervision and financial management for operations and staff in both Chattanooga and Leogane, Haiti. Minimum requirements: MPH or equivalent degree; 5 years of international health experience, including 2 years on-site in a developing nation or previous program manager experience. We are a faith-based, nonprofit US 501(c)(3) corporation that provides programs including positive deviance Hearth, safe water, micro-finance and mobile medical-dental clinics to improve the health, nutrition and development of children in Haiti.
General

The Executive Director (ED) leads the operations of the CNP in the USA and Haiti, and is the catalyst for the overall success of the program. The ED is responsible for developing, marketing and managing programs; directing communications within the CNP organization including Haitian partners and staff, with outside groups, and donors; initiating and maintaining collaborative interface with other NGOs, including contracts and subcontracts; fundraising, and responsible management of finances, including timely reporting; adapting to emerging needs and realities in Haiti; evaluating program effectiveness; and developing and maintaining a close working relationship with the Board of Directors. The position is based in Chattanooga, TN.

Responsibilities

*  Reports directly to the Board of Directors

*  In partnership with the Board of Directors, establishes long and short range plans, policies, goals and objectives and performs independently within the guidelines of the Articles of Incorporation and the related Bylaws


*  Manages US and Haitian-based staff and volunteers. In the USA, this management takes the form of direct oversight. In Haiti, an additional level of management is present in the person of the Program Manager. Thus Haitian staff and personnel receive direct oversight from the Program Manager who in turn reports to the ED.
 

*  Directs, guides, and works with the Haiti-based Program Manager in operation, evaluation, and reporting of present and future programs

*  Working in collaboration with the Haiti-based Program Manager, leads and supervises the development of new program activities.
 

*  Identifies, solicits, and manages current and potential donors including maintenance of effective communication and ongoing relationships with donors regarding the use of their funds
 

*  Maintains and manages existing grants
 

*  Identifies, effectively competes for and manages new grants from government and private sources
 

*  With consultation and collaboration as needed, develops well designed research studies to measure program outcomes. Presents results of research/program activities with evidence-based criteria in a variety of public and private venues and provides for dissemination in scholarly journals as well as in-house publications

*  Travels to Haiti and U.S. sites and professional meetings as needed to support program activities and development

*  Prepares and presents an annual budget to the Board of Directors and assures the Board receives timely and accurate interim financial reports
 

*  Provides ongoing, accurate financial accounting including maintenance of the financial management system.
 

*  Produces regular publications, web-based products, annual reports, newsletters and funding development materials with support of communications staff
 

*  Maintains a current passport and necessary USA work documents. The CNP is not able at this time to assist in obtaining work documents.

Qualifications:

*  A graduate degree such as MPH or equivalent degree

*  Five years international public health experience, including a minimum of two years onsite experience in developing countries or previous program manager experience.

*  Established track record of success in grant writing for competition and maintenance of government or private foundation grants

*  The ability to present, market and explain the Childrenˇ¦s Nutrition Program in an effective manner to professional and non-professional groups

*  Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communications including persuasive presentation skills

*  Excellent interpersonal skills as well as the desire and proven capacity to develop and nurture ongoing donor relationships; interact effectively with staff, professional partners and colleagues; and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors.

*  Competence in French or Creole preferred; willingness to learn essential

*  A demonstrated record of effective leadership including creating a vision, mission and complementary planning, and a demonstrated ability in team building, communication skills, and creative conflict resolution

*  Professional level experience in development, budgeting, and administration

*  Demonstrated Managerial Experience

*  Demonstrated computer competency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Competence in QuickBooks preferred; capacity and willingness to learn essential.

Salary and Benefits:
