AKF, Afghanistan has been implementing a multi-input development program in central and northern Afghanistan since 2002. One of the largest development agencies in the country, AKF works closely with the Government, private sector and civil society in Afghanistan to improve the quality of life in its focus areas. With more than 1,500 staff in eight provinces, AKF leverages the support of many international donors, including Canada, Germany, Norway, and the European Union to develop high quality programming.
AKF's CEO in Afghanistan will provide strategic direction to its evolving programmes; motivate and manage a multinational team and positively influence the Afghan environment within the global development agenda. The CEO will help ensure the safety and security of staff and assets, and the communities with which AKF works, through an ongoing process of risk analysis and mitigation.
The CEO must be able to demonstrate the highest level of responsibility and leadership under extreme deadlines with experience in financial management, personnel management, and public and donor relations. Experience and knowledge of the developing world or experience working in a demanding environment would be a distinct advantage and commitment and compassionate concern for development, and inter-cultural sensitivity. The post requires travel to remote and difficult project sites to understand, assess and oversee project design, implementation and results orientation. The candidate should have a willingness and ability to learn quickly about a broad range of development issues in which AKF is involved. Fluency in English, both written and oral, is a requirement.
