Welfare Assessment Reporting Officer

The Role

The Welfare Assessment Reporting Officer will support the collection, analysis and reporting of results of animal-based surveys which inform the organisation of progress being made in the improvement of equine welfare.

You will be involved in developing and implementing IT based methods to allow the cross organisational sharing of information collected as part of the Brooke’s animal welfare monitoring system. You will also participate in the refinement and development of methods to identify changes in animal welfare, and support the interpretation of information collected and its inclusion in organisational reports.

As part of the Animal Welfare and Research team with the International Development Department, you will work in close collaboration with colleagues in the UK, particularly those in your own and the Organisational Development team, as well as with staff overseas. You will also work closely with the Welfare Assessment Advisor to provide training in welfare assessment techniques to in-country teams.

Criteria

You will have an appropriate scientific background and an understanding of animal welfare science and statistics as well as a relevant science or development degree (Minimum BSc, Master preferred). In addition you will have gained experience planning, developing and implementing organizational reporting systems in an NGO context and be able to demonstrate that you can collect, analyse, manage, report and present data from surveys or observational studies.

You will also have a keen interest in animal welfare and practical experience of handling a variety of equines. You will be a team player, with experience in training or capacity building and have excellent organizational skills and a proven track record of providing high quality results under time pressure.

This post will involve time spent overseas so you will also be willing to travel and work independently in developing countries.
