The Brooke is the UK’s leading overseas working equine welfare charity, dedicated to improving the lives of horses, donkeys and mules working in some of the poorest communities in the world. On average six or more people depend on the income generated through the work of each animal and so by improving animal welfare, the lives of poor people in the developing world are improved.

Our goal is to increase the number of working animals we reach from 900,000 every year to 2 million suffering horses, donkeys and mules in the most need in the developing world by 2016.

The Role
This is a newly created role to help deliver the Brooke’s commitment to significantly increasing our impact on working equine animal welfare, within and beyond the geographical areas in which we work through influencing and collaborating with local, national and international institutions.

It is a challenging and exciting role for a highly capable and dedicated individual with proven experience of influencing to make important changes to help us achieve our goal of increasing our reach from 900,000 every year to 2 million suffering horses, donkeys and mules in the most need in the developing world by 2016.

We recognise that this cannot be achieved through simply expanding the Brooke’s operational work within existing and to new countries and so the Head of Influencing will lead the development, coordination and reporting of the Brooke’s influencing work. You will manage the implementation of the strategy for influencing, in line with the Brooke International Strategy and in collaboration with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Criteria
You will have experience in implementing and monitoring influencing activities directed at decision-makers including at a high level in European and/or wider International networks and will have proven knowledge and understanding of local, regional and international development issues affecting working animals and poor communities in developing countries.

Additionally, you will have experience in writing organisational briefs and providing analysis for senior staff and other organisational representatives, experience of working with both traditional and new media in the framework of media influencing/advocacy strategies and knowledge.

In order to excel in this post, you will have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working collaboratively with others from a range of disciplines and cultures and be able to demonstrate your diplomacy, negotiation and facilitation skills to support agreement and effective working across organisations. Experience of planning and strategising to optimise and influence opportunities and exploit them creatively is essential.

If you think you fit the bill and would like to work for an ambitious international charity, we would love to hear from you.
Closing date: 18 July 2011
