BRAC USA is recruiting a Head of Research & Evaluation. Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, BRAC International, s/he will oversee and manage the BRAC Uganda Research Unit, based in Kampala. The BRAC Uganda Research & Evaluation Unit was set up in 2008, with the goal of advancing learning on BRAC’s work in the region through rigorous and high-quality evaluation studies.
We welcome applications from people who may take leave or be seconded to BRAC from other research organizations and universities.

• Oversee the team of researchers and other support staff of the unit
• Train and mentor research staff – focus on building local capacity, leading with best practices in measurement and evaluation
• Coordinate and liaison with the Research Advisory Council composed of eminent researchers and key funding partners

• Develop and implement a comprehensive evaluation plan in consultation with program staff, senior management team, the research advisory council and the funding partners. Set indicators, and determine method and frequency of data collection, to measure program impact through specific evaluation studies.
• Create, implement and communicate frameworks, tools and data collection systems which drive performance
• Oversee and adjust the systems and databases to ensure quality, reliability, and integrity
• Publish papers in distinguished peer-reviewed journals
• Organize research dissemination workshops

• Collaborate with other research team members in other BRAC countries.
• Develop and sustain robust partnerships with local and international academic institutions of high repute.

• In collaboration with communications team, distill key messages for internal and external audiences, develop a broad and strategic knowledge sharing plan as well as draft articles, white papers and other publications that share important findings to multiple audiences

Qualifications and Experience:
• Applicant should have a Master’s degree or PhD in social sciences from a recognized University/Institution.
• Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in multi-method evaluation garnered in either a consulting and /or in-house monitoring and evaluation function, across a complex array of programs, initiatives and in global environments. The ideal candidate must have a track record of technical ability and has designed systems for capturing and assessing both impact and performance data that:
- Facilitate learning in an Organization.
- Have led to demonstrable program innovation.
• Superior analytical and problem- solving skills, detail orientated, belief in the importance of evidence- based decision making.
• Purposeful written and oral communication skills, able to distill essential information and tailor messages for a variety of audiences spanning academic publication to non-specialists.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, able to work effectively at all levels of the organization, including top leadership and at the board level; collaborative and inclusive; relationship builder; enjoys engaging in the field with practitioners as they innovate.
• Strong project management and consultative skills to drive and support teams in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment; team player who enjoys coaching and developing staff.
• Demonstrates BRAC’s core values, mission and programs.
• Comfort with ambiguity and proven experience in thriving in unchartered waters; action-oriented, multi disciplinary thinker.
• Flexibility, resilience, a motivated self-starter and multi-tasker; inquisitive, transparent and enterprising in finding new strategies and solutions.
• Highest ethical and professional standards.

Remuneration for the position will commensurate with experience.
