Ref.514648
BBC World Service Trust and Internews Europe Consortium
9-month contract
London

When crisis or disaster strikes, people need information just as much as they need shelter, food, water and safety. The fact is, communication with disaster-affected communities can increase the effectiveness of humanitarian responses and in turn, save lives. With that thinking in mind, the BBC World Service Trust and Internews have been awarded a grant to provide support to aid agencies, improving their capacity to respond to the information needs of populations affected by disaster.

As Head of Project, you’ll manage the successful delivery of this high profile humanitarian media assistance initiative. You’ll need to establish excellent working relationships with a wide range of senior figures within the humanitarian relief community, as well as collate, coordinate and manage knowledge from two distinct work streams. This will mean building the capacity and preparedness of aid agencies to respond to the information and communication needs of affected populations during the important early phase of response. Alongside this, you’ll work in partnership with aid agencies to inform and support their two-way communication with affected populations in the field.

A role as high profile as this demands significant experience working in the field of humanitarian relief, preferably with a deep understanding of media and how communication with affected populations has evolved. You’ll also need demonstrable partnership or stakeholder management skills, including highly developed negotiating, influencing and networking abilities. A background in project management and a track record of delivering results to agreed timetables and budgets will of course be essential.

Applications to be received by 30 January.
