SUSTAINABLE INVESTMENT & TRADE SPECIALIST/DIRECTOR

The Bassiouni Group/TBG (http://bassiounigroup.com) is a New York and Geneva-based firm specializing in sustainable trade, investment and development in emerging/developing economies. We are committed to improving the quality of life through the implementation of collaborative, sustainable development solutions at the community level. Currently, we are focusing on investment opportunities in Rwanda and are assembling our Rwanda Development Team. The following consultancy position is available:

The Sustainable Investment & Trade Specialist/Director is responsible for providing strategic guidance, policy analysis and program coordination within the key areas of economic development – including investment, private sector development and trade – in support of TBG’s organizational goals. He/she will be primarily tasked with building TBG’s connections to the global investor community, broadening the company’s investment portfolio and spearheading specific investment projects in Rwanda and neighboring East-African countries.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 Manage all aspects of investment, private sector and trade policy issues, specifically investment promotion and business development in Rwanda and East Africa
 Oversee specific investment programs at the local, regional and national levels within Rwanda, including targeted investments in start-ups and SMEs
 Develop/maintain strong relationships with local communities in advance of and beyond investment activities
 Research, identify and recruit investors from the Americas, Europe and Asia; develop tailored investment packages for prospects
 Research, identify and develop investment opportunities within Rwanda and neighboring East African countries
 Conduct fact-finding missions in Rwanda and lead investor delegations to Rwanda and neighboring East African countries in support of our goals
 Monitor trade and investment policy for development, particularly in Asia, the EU, the Americas and the major emerging economies (e.g. G20)
 Develop relationships with government, private sector organizations and NGOs working on trade, investment and private sector development issues.
 Represent the firm at investment-related meetings and conferences on specific policy topics, as needed
 Develop/maintain relationships with key contacts in African countries on specific policy issues and experiences implementing key programs
 Develop/maintain relationships with key contacts in the social enterprise community
 Follow news and related reports on trade and investment policy issues relevant to the TBG’s mission
 Draft research, policy analysis, preparing briefing papers, blog postings, talking points and press releases

Knowledge, Skills & Experienced Required:

 At least 10/15 years of practical experience in international trade & investment, foreign direct investment, venture capital etc.
 Previous work experience in Rwanda/East Africa/Africa
 Exceptional contacts within the global investor community
 Deep knowledge of sustainable investment practices in key sectors including Agriculture, Renewable Energy, Real Estate and Technology
 Masters degree, preferably in economics, development or international affairs
 Substantial experience working on trade and/or investment in the public, private, public/private and/or voluntary sectors
 Experience working on issues of trade and investment, particularly in Africa; basic understanding of the links between trade, advocacy, policy-making, legislation, and implementation of programs.
 Specific experience with at least one of the following substantive policy
issues – trade and investment policy for development, private sector development, international financial institutions.
 Ability to synthesize policy documents with any eye to key points and relevance to the firm
 Ability to work as part of a global team and direct the work of other team members
 Quick turnaround research skills-must have the ability to seek out key facts and statistics that help explain complicated policy topics to broad audience
 Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
 Ability to work in a fast paced environment, with shifting priorities and occasional heavy workloads
 Generally very well-organized; proven ability to multi-task
 Comprehension and/or fluency in French and Chinese (Mandarin) preferred

Compensation:

This is not a salaried position. It is a part-time, consultant position that will be transition to a full-time permanent position. The successful candidate will earn participatory compensation based on the value of the projects worked on and the total responsibility for that project.
