Afghanaid, an international NGO registered in the UK and operating in Afghanistan for last 30 years, has a mandate to facilitate and support Afghan women, men and children in their fight against poverty, inequality and vulnerability. We work with integrated rural development approach, with priority sectors of food security, sustainable natural resource-based rural livelihoods, rural savings and market-driven enterprise development, local governance, and physical community infra-structure with cross-cutting themes of children and youth rights, gender equality, community development and disaster risk reduction. We are a knowledge-based learning organization that works with both right bearers and duty holders through grassroots programming as well as advocacy and policy initiatives.
We’re looking for a Director of Resource Mobilization and External Relations in Kabul (Head Office) with the following role and person specifications.


The Role
This is a strategic leadership and management role which under the direct steer and line management of Managing Director, and working closely with Afghanaid’s Directorate, is responsible for overall strategy and its execution through a competent international national staff team vis-à-vis:
• Restricted and unrestricted income mobilization – production of high quality concept notes, LFA and narrative and financial proposals
• Donors contract compliance – procurement, reporting, visibility
• New strategic funding partnership development – donors mapping, donors relationship, identification of new donors

Competencies & Skills
You will have a research-based post graduation degree in International Development, Anthropology, Governance or similar field from an internationally reputable university. You will bring at least 5 years of professional senior leadership and management experience in areas of resource mobilization and strategic funding partnership development. Experience in high level advocacy and international communications will be an advantage. You will have excellent English skills (verbal and written), and a proven ability to train and mentor staff and peers. For this position excellent interpersonal skills, with proven teamwork and participation is of utmost importance. You will have solid hands-on experience in the development sector and in production of a wide array of highly analytical works, which include, but not limited to grant applications, briefing papers and communication materials. You will have an ability to utilize public relations to forge stronger constituency consensus.

The post requires ability to deal with challenging work situations and willingness to live and work in Kabul, with some traveling to Afghanaid work areas outside Kabul. You must have highly developed skills in effective communication (in English and preferably in Dari); computer literacy in Microsoft office package; a solid understanding of funding environment in Afghanistan; be able to independently represent Afghanaid at various platforms and provide them leadership; lead the development of grant applications, with limited support provided from the programme operations team as well as promotional and communications material; mentoring and coaching national counterparts; and training senior management. You will be required to work with significant level of autonomy, take initiative, be able to meet tight deadlines and deliver high quality results against agreed priorities within the given timeframe. You must have respect for local culture and religion, be self motivated, be aware of your personal strengths and weaknesses and their impact on your work, and be able to manage stress.
