Executive Director, Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases

The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 8. The salary range will be £39,668 - £46,822 per annum depending on skills and experience, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases was founded in June 2009 by a group of the world’s foremost health research funding agencies to co-ordinate certain research activities that will address, on a global scale, the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. The Alliance has just awarded UCL funding to host its Secretariat. UCL and the Alliance are therefore conducting an international search to appoint a Grade 8 Executive Director of the Alliance Secretariat.

Based at UCL, the Executive Director will work as the head of the Secretariat of the Alliance to provide key day-to-day support to the Alliance in keeping with the direction set by the Board in its strategies, work plans and budgets. The role-holder will also support GACD structures and convene GACD meetings, facilitate collaboration among members and represent the Alliance with partners and other organisations, manage communications of the Alliance, and hire and line-manage a full-time Programme Associate and a part-time Communications Associate.

The post is initially funded for 2 years.

Applicants must be educated to at least Masters Degree level in a relevant discipline. The ideal candidate will have relevant professional experience; be fluent in English; have excellent communication skills, strong planning, organisation, problem-solving, co-ordination and negotiation skills; be able to establish, manage, guide and monitor relationships with diverse stakeholders; and be able to provide specialised advice and guidance to external contacts. Strong knowledge of public health issues in developing countries is also required.
