Position: Nutrition and HIV Technical Associate – Ghana

Supervisor: Nutrition and HIV Advisor – Washington, DC

Grade: 5.1

Starting Salary: As per GHS rates

Project Duration: The initial contract period is April 04, 2011 through April 04, 2012.

Project Summary: FANTA-2 works to improve nutrition and food security policies, strategies and programs through technical support to the U.S. Agency for international Development (USAID) and its partners, including host country governments, international organizations and NGO implementing partners. Focus areas for technical assistance include maternal and child health and nutrition, HIV and other infectious diseases, food security and livelihood strengthening, and emergency and reconstruction. FANTA-2 develops and adapts approaches to support the design and quality implementation of field programs, while building on field experience to improve and expand the evidence base, methods and global standards for nutrition and food security programming. The project, funded by USAID, is a five-year cooperative agreement.

Position Summary: The Nutrition and HIV Technical Assistant will assist the Ghana Health Services (GHS) Nutrition and HIV Program Manager to organize and conduct trainings and provide supportive supervision related to nutrition, food security and HIV as well as organize and document nutrition and HIV technical working group (TWG) and other relevant meetings. The Nutrition and HIV Technical Assistant will also provide administrative and operational support in the implementation of FANTA-2 activities in Ghana including preparing budget projections and program reports.

Essential Job Functions:
Assist the GHS Nutrition/HIV Program Manager with the following activities:
1. Facilitating and organizing Nutrition Assessment Counseling and Support (NACS )trainings
2. Compiling and analyzing NACS program data at national level (beneficiary data and outcomes, stocks, training records). Support the regions and districts to compile and analyze regional and district NACS data.
3. Preparing monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual progress reports and updates including contributing to FANTA-2 quarterly and annual reports
4. Supporting facilities with forecasting and supply management of specialized foods
5. Assisting the GHS in providing supportive supervision and quality improvement of NACS activities at the facility level
6. Organizing and documenting technical working group meetings and other NACS meetings
7. Preparing monthly, annual, biannual and quarterly plans for NACS activities
8. Ensuring appropriate co-ordination and harmonization of NACS activities with other HIV activities and GHS nutrition program activities
9. In liaison with FANTA-2 Operations and Finance personnel for Ghana, preparing monthly and quarterly operational projections for the NACS activities supported by USAID/Ghana funding including:
Reconciling all expenditures related to NACS activities.

Submitting travel authorization requests to the FANTA-2 Project Director in a timely manner for all travel to be funded by USAID/Ghana.

Purchase office supplies and other goods to meet project needs, including the collection of quotations from vendors, when needed.

Assist with all procurement activities, including recruiting consultants, requesting cost estimates for purchase order agreements and contacting vendors to collect and document price quotations for project purchases. Oversee delivery of equipment and part, as appropriate, and maintain inventory lists of purchases made with FANTA-2 funds.

Assist with the compilation and submission to FANTA-2/Washington of documents related to cost share in Mozambique.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition or related health field and one year of experience

Experience: Experience in public speaking, teaching or facilitating trainings.

Experience providing administrative and operational support in an office setting.

Knowledge of Word and Excel required. Experience with database software and Powerpoint desirable.

Experience with the maintenance and filing of documents, files, reports, etc.

Experience with USAID-funded projects desirable.

Skills: Fluency in English and at least one Ghanaian language.
Excellent written and oral communication.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and manage a variety of tasks with accuracy.
Ability to initiate and implement activities with minimal oversight and supervision.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Ability to coordinate a variety of tasks simultaneously and interact effectively with a diverse group of people.
