Communities Manager
The Simandou Project, Guinea is a large project within Rio Tinto Iron Ores portfolio. Stage 1 will involve implementing a 95Mtpa mine + 700km long rail + deep water port. The project is in Pre Feasibility Stage (PFS).
The role will be responsible for the community relations of the project including: development of community systems, development of community program in health, education and infrastructure as well as building strong relationships with NGOs, government and the community leaders to ensure the success of the project.
Main Accountabilities
Actively promote safety and environmental awareness, safe work practices and compliance with safety, community and environmental standards.
Integrate the communities management into the Simandou HSEC management system
Oversee the implementation of community health and education programs
Oversee the implementation of local infrastructure and other community projects
Develop livelihood compensation measures
Contribute to the development of a strategy for sustainable regional economies
Develop partnerships with donors and NGOs in line with the project and community team strategy
Liaise with local authorities on community matter and issues pertaining to the project where required
Implement measures to monitor community issues, progress and opportunities for strengthening relationships.
Manage development and succession planning initiatives to identify key talent and create consistent leadership coverage and support for the project.
Identify and implement areas to facilitate and increase the skill development, employment & integration of Guinean nationals into the project workforce.
Requirements
A graduate or post-graduate degree in social sciences, anthropology, community training or development studies.
At least 10 years working in community relations management in remote locations;
French speaking with preference for English as well
Experience in managing impacts of in-migration
Significant experience in both strategic and operational management of community and broader social issues;
Previous work experience in West Africa is highly desirable
Knowledge of IFC standards is highly desirable
