Logistician

In the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti in January 2010 and following emergency relief work in close cooperation with the Haitian Red Crescent Society (HRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), SRC runs a comprehensive relief and reconstruction programme

The logistician, under the supervision of the Country Representative will carry out logistics tasks in support of the Swiss Red-Cross operation in Haiti, ensuring the efficient and effective reception and delivery of goods for reconstruction and health related programmes in Port au Prince and Léogane. The position is based mainly in Léogane.

Tasks: Organise customs clearance and other formalities for incoming goods to ensure timely receipt Plan, organize and maintain warehouse and storing yard, in compliance with warehousing standards and safety and security norms Plan and organise with Construction Delegate and in coordination with the IFRC transportation fleet, the dispatch of material for houses from the warehouse to the construction site Ensure correct vehicle usage procedures by delegation drivers Maintain accurate control, recording and monitoring of vehicle logbooks and monthly fuel usage Ensure that vehicle service intervals are monitored and that service is carried out Obtain quotations, prepare comparative bid analysis and purchase recommendations material and, when authorised, purchase appropriate supplies Organise delivery in a timely and cost effective manner Provide timely advice and technical support on logistics issues within the delegation Support, train and develop local staff.


Requirements: Working experience in humanitarian aid and post-disaster operations in developping countries Education and sound experience in logistics Experience in standardized and systemized logistics-software Sensitivity to cultural differences and ability to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts Skills in teamwork and in working under difficult conditions Familiarity with Red Cross Movement and working experience in Haiti are advantages Fluency in French (working language) and English, Spanish and German are assets.


Duration of contract: 12 months with the option of extension, starting as soon as possible or according to agreement.

Adequate salary, social insurances, travel and accommodation expenses provided.
