PURPOSE
Women for Women International provides women survivors of war, civil strife and
other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to
stability, self-sufficiency, and active citizenship, thereby promoting viable
civil societies.
Founded in 1993, Women for Women International has served more than 250,000
women, and distributed millions of dollars in direct aid, microcredit loans and
other program services. In 2010, with an annual budget of approximately $30
million, Women for Women International will serve more than 45,000 women
throughout Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of the
Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sudan, and build one-to-one connections
with more than 45,000 sponsors in throughout the US and 55 other countries.
The Senior Advisor, Iraq will work in close collaboration with the Country
Director (CD) to implement and support the following:
1.
Advise and make recommendations regarding best practices on the daily management
and operations of the Country Office, including program, finance and personnel.
2.
Manage the Senior Management Team, including Program Manager, Finance and
Administration Manager, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager and Income Generation
Manager.
3.
Ensure the highest quality, integrity, and efficiency with regards to
programming and operations and helps to foster empowerment and accountability in
the work environment.
ADVISORY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management:
1.
Ensure that all aspects of “core” program, including sponsorship, life skills
and vocational training as well as grant-funded projects are implemented with
the highest quality and integrity according to mission and goals.
2.
Ensure that all data collection and reporting on any aspects of the program is
conducted in a timely manner and according to the highest possible standards.
3.
Work closely with the senior managers on all aspects of programming to ensure
accountability and adherence to mission.
4.
Annual targets achieved.
Financial Management:
1.
Ensure that proper financial systems and controls are developed, maintained and
verified.
2.
Provide effective oversight and substantive contribution where appropriate to
all aspects of Country Office financial management including budget preparation,
managing costs to budget, financial and grant reporting and related areas.
3.
Ensure that Finance staff is properly trained and that all staff understands
policies and procedures regarding cash, procurement, etc.
Personnel Management:
1.
Empower and supervise staff on a day to day basis to high performance in
implementing the strategic direction of the organization, including mission,
vision and goals.
2.
Help to unify staff and foster an open, supportive environment
3.
Provide opportunities to improve staff performance including training,
professional development and effective work structuring.
4.
Performance manage direct reports in line with WWI’s performance management
framework, including setting of annual performance objectives, annual
performance development plans, annual performance appraisal and regular
one-on-one meetings regarding progress throughout the year.
5.
Create, communicate and periodically review office and staff security plans.
6.
Provide oversight and guidance to the development and monitoring of processes
for recruitment
Strategic Oversight and Responsibilities
1.
Accountable at the highest level for the action and activities of the Country
Office.
2.
Responsible for facilitating annual planning and budgeting for the country
office in collaboration with Country Office staff and HQ.
3.
Responsible for the Country Office’s adherence to all policies and procedures
established by Women for Women International.
Outreach and Fundraising
1.
Prepare and execute strategic fundraising plan and follow up on all
opportunities seeking timely support when needed.
2.
Develop and maintain working relationships with local and international
partners, relevant government agencies, international and local NGOs working in
country.
3.
Represent the organization to external audiences and stakeholders.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
1.
At least 10 years senior management experience in private sector, NGO or
government leading a team of at least 20 people through a participatory and
enabling management style
2.
Demonstrated financial management, accounting or related skills and experience
3.
Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills;
4.
Successful at establishing internal and external relationships and building
trust with others;
5.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
6.
High level of maturity and personal integrity;
7.
Long-term commitment to advancing the cause of socially excluded women;
8.
Understanding of the work of NGOs in the social, political and economic context
of Kosovo;
9.
Citizen or legally able to work in Iraq;
10.
Fluency in local language;
11.
Excellent English including reading, writing and speaking skills;
12.
Masters degree in a relevant field preferred;
13.
Computer skills including working with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
email.
