Help Lesotho
Location: Lesotho
Last Date: February 25, 2011

Help Lesotho ( www.helplesotho.ca ) is a Canadian NGO transforming the lives of over 9,000 children, youth, and grandmothers in the tiny mountain Kingdom of Lesotho, in sub-Saharan Africa, a country with the world’s third highest rate of HIV/AIDS. The King of Lesotho is the patron of this fast growing, well-respected and effective organization. Help Lesotho meets both relief and development challenges through child sponsorship, 15 partner schools, a grandmother support program and its extensive youth leadership development and training programs. Gender equity and HIV/AIDS education are embedded in all programs. Your well-developed skills will direct and inspire these programs to make an even greater difference in lives of those we serve. You are the leader who will guide Help Lesotho in a sustainable future.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you oversee all operations in Lesotho. You believe in grass-roots development approaches and will enjoy living in a small town in Lesotho with few amenities. You are excited to be actively engaged with the youth, grandmothers and orphans who benefit from Help Lesotho’s many programs. You will oversee two fabulous, busy community centres meeting the needs identified by local partners and beneficiaries. You will assess the needs in the field against program effectiveness and direct program priorities accordingly.

You will ensure Help Lesotho’s strategic goals and objectives are met. As Country Director, you will assume in-country accountability for the attainment of Help Lesotho’s program, financial and administrative objectives and ensure a positive impact on Help Lesotho’s 30 full and part time staff, program participants and beneficiaries. You will play a critical role in the leadership and development of staff and volunteers, building the organizations’ capacity for the future.

You have proven senior leadership experience as well as direct experience in community and program development, in a developing country, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa. A consummate and compassionate professional, you are skilled at developing relationships with a range of stakeholders, senior government officials, local community leaders, staff, and donors. Your ability to inspire trust, optimism, and engage those around you, both in and outside of the organization, and secure international funding will benefit the organization for years to come. With unquestionable ethics, and finely tuned communication skills, you have the passion to articulate Help Lesotho’s vision with strength, conviction, and enthusiasm. Your commitment to Help Lesotho is ideally long term.
