Description: This is a three-year study aimed at evaluating the impact of household sanitation on diarrhoea and helminth infections. The study takes place in the district of Puri, Orissa and is being conducted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), WaterAid India, the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar and in collaboration with local NGOs. The post holder will be responsible for assisting with the collection and processing of entomological data as part as a sub-study examining the impact of individual household latrines on flies and mosquitoes.  

Key roles and responsibilities: 

·           Conduct field visits for positioning and placement of insect traps

·           Assist with the collection and identification of caught specimens

·           Maintain and operate standard laboratory and field procedures

·           Ensure stocking of consumables and materials to carry out relevant analyses

·           Ensure the maintenance and calibration of laboratory and field equipment

·           Maintain accurate records of test results 

Person specification 

·           Degree in entomology, biology or related field

·           At least 2 years experience with entomological research

·           Experience with working in a laboratory and using laboratory equipment such as microscopes

·           Fluent in both Oriya and English

·           Ability to travel within Puri district

·           Ability to work flexible hours

·           Proven organisational skills

·           Ability to work as part of a team and independently

·           Ability to manage time and workload effectively

·           Willingness to undertake training and adapt to the needs of the post as required by the employer
