The post holder will be responsible for monitoring and supervising the
data collection process and implement quality assurance procedures.
He/she will supervise five members of staff and monitor field activities
on a daily basis. The monitoring officer will report to the Assistant
Study Manager.
Background :
This is a 3-year study aimed at evaluating the impact of household
sanitation on diarrhoea and helminth infections. The study takes place in
the district of Puri, Orissa and is being conducted by the London School
of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, WaterAid India, the Xavier Institute of
Management Bhubaneswar and in collaboration with local NGOs.
Key roles and responsibilities
·
Assist with the training of enumerators in data collection techniques
·
Assist with qualitative research as required
·
Support and guide the enumerators in the preparation of work plans and
its timely execution.
·
Conduct regular visits to the field to ensure that data collection
procedures are being followed according to the protocol and provide
guidance to interviewers
·
Review completed questionnaires and data collection forms and ensure
accurate collection of data from authentic sources.
·
Repeat interviews and measurements among a random sample of participants
·
Supervise field staff during structured observations
·
Provide logistical support to the data collectors
·
Maintain daily record of the activities
·
Submit supervision reports to assistant study manager on a regular basis
·
Provide support during data entry and analyses
·
Any other specific task assigned
Person specification
·
At least a Master degree in social science or related field
·
At least of 4 years of experience with monitoring of data collection
processes and team supervision.
·
Fair understanding of different research techniques and monitoring tools
·
Excellent skills in verbal and written Oriya and English
·
Ability to travel within Puri district and spend 80% of his/her time in
the field
·
Ability to work flexible hours
·
Computer literate - Microsoft Office, data management programmes
Desirable :
·
Experience with qualitative research methods
·
Familiarity with water, sanitation or health issues
·
Highly organized, capable of multitasking, and able to meet deadlines
Flexible, motivated, and able to work with a team or independently
