The Asia Foundation seeks a Regional Director for Elections and Political Processes. The Regional Director for Elections and Political Processes provides intellectual and programmatic leadership for Asia Foundation programs covering the broad area of public accountability, transparency, and political representation including elections, political parties, parliaments, local councils, freedom of information, improving the environment for civil society organizations, and media development. The Regional Director will provide conceptual leadership within the Asia Foundation, formulating and articulating our approach and helping to develop innovative programs in Asia in the areas listed above. He/she will also position the Asia Foundation more broadly within the development community, particularly with donors, as a thought leader on elections and political processes. Through a combination of internal leadership and external positioning, the Regional Director will expand the scale and improve the quality of Foundation programs. The position will be based in either San Francisco, California or Bangkok, Thailand and requires the ability and willingness to undertake frequent travel (25% time minimum, subject to availability of travel funds).

REQURIEMENTS:
Experience:
" Minimum of seven years professional experience in international development or foreign affairs, including significant experience in program development focused on elections and political processes
" Excellent communications and writing skills is essential
" Experience in program development, proposal writing, and strategic planning required
" Knowledge of Asian political, economic, and foreign policy issues essential
" Experience living and working in Asia preferred

Education:
" PhD or Master's degree in public policy, political science, international development, or a related field.
Other:
" Must be flexible, cooperative, hardworking, a team leader and a team player
" Must possess ability to pay close attention to detail while maintaining broad perspective on program goals and approaches
" Willingness and capacity to travel extensively in Asia to work closely with field office staff as required.
" Knowledge of the programs and operation of The Asia Foundation helpful.
