CROP PHYSIOLOGIST (Scientist)

Rice is life for millions of people around the world. At the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), a team of more than 1,000 world-class scientific and support staff is working to reduce poverty through rice science. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative scientist who will use advanced plant physiology research approaches to develop improved rice varieties with increased yield potential, excellent grain quality, and tolerance for rising temperatures.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will establish an innovative field and controlled-environment research program on the physiological basis of traits that determine yield potential and heat tolerance in rice - from genes to plant organs, the whole plant, and crop canopy. Working closely with breeders, geneticists, and other scientists, he or she will contribute to efforts to develop new varieties with increased yield potential and better adaptation to climate change.

REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should have a PhD in plant/crop physiology or a related discipline; a minimum of 3 years of post-PhD research experience in plant physiology, molecular biology, or a related discipline; a strong background in plant physiology, including a good understanding of genetics and molecular biology and breeding approaches; a good understanding of yield potential and agronomic management concepts for growing crops at the yield-potential level; a demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality lab-to-field research on complex crop physiological processes; and excellent written and spoken English.

This internationally recruited position will be based at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) headquarters in Los Baņos, Laguna, Philippines, with a competitive compensation and benefit package. IRRI provides a multicultural work environment that reflects the values of gender equality, teamwork, and respect for diversity. Women are encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates should submit their application to IRRIRecruitment@irri.org . Screening will start on December 15, 2010 or until a suitable candidate has been found. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. For complete job details, please view our job homepage at www.irri.org.
