Rice is life for millions of people around the world. At the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), a team of more than 1,000 world-class scientific and support staff is working to reduce poverty through rice science. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and highly respected scientist/senior scientist who will use molecular breeding approaches to develop improved rice varieties for temperate environments and will coordinate all activities of the Temperate Rice Research Consortium (TRRC).

The successful candidate will lead a breeding program in the Republic of Korea that aims to develop varieties suitable for temperate rice environments; conduct studies on discovering and characterizing new genes and QTLs for agronomic traits, grain quality, resistance to diseases and insects, and tolerance for cold; explore novel breeding strategies and methods, with particular emphasis on recurrent selection and marker-assisted breeding technologies; coordinate activities of the TRRC and its working groups; participate in capacity building and training activities for rice breeding, stress tolerance, and molecular marker applications; and act as IRRI representative in the Republic of Korea, liaising with national research partners on all bilateral research activities.

Candidates should have a PhD in plant genetics or plant breeding; a minimum 3-year post-PhD research experience in plant breeding, genetics, or related fields; specific knowledge and practical expertise in rice breeding; and excellent written and spoken English.
