BBC World Service Trust is the independent international charity of the BBC which uses media and communications to reduce poverty & promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media and governments to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats and strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. Our projects in Nepal produce highly-regarded weekly radio and TV programmes, on governance, gender based violence and health.
As Country Director, based in Nepal, you値l assume overall responsibility for delivering our projects to agreed targets and objectives.
The BBC World Service Trust is funded by external grants and voluntary contributions, including from the UK's Department for International Development (DFID), the European Union, UN agencies and charitable foundations. Whilst working to raise awareness among mass and opinion-former audiences we also transfer skills and knowledge. We produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues. We also bring local people together with political leaders.
The role You値l have overall responsibility for managing a team of international and national staff as well as representing the Trust to partners, donors and other stakeholders. You値l report to the Director, Asia and working with London based project manager support, you値l be responsible for managing project budgets. While we have two short-term projects being finalised, business development will be a key focus for you. You値l take the lead on the development and implementation of the country strategy and create a shared vision among all staff in achieving our development & programme aims.
You値l manage a creative team in the development, design and direct production of outputs, liaise with the Research team to ensure qualitative and quantitative research activities are delivered on time and within budget and manage an admin and finance team. You will ensure that our programmes adhere to BBC editorial standards and guidelines, as well as making sure administrative, financial, HR and Health and Safety policies are understood and complied with by staff. With support from London, you will be responsible for ensuring that appropriate security guidelines and procedures are in place and adhered to.
Requirements
You will need experience in a senior management position with experience of using media for developmental goals. You値l have a strong track record securing support from donors and will have demonstrable experience in proposal writing and design of project budgets. In addition to your ability to communicate and present persuasively externally as well as internally, you値l have strong leadership skills. This role is for a senior leader who has significant experience of effective management of large-scale projects/events/productions and experience of managing diverse teams.
Creative ability and a proven track record in originating new ideas are important. As well as knowledge of BBC editorial values, preferably within a radio/television programme-making context, you値l have the ability to apply these to media for development projects. Your financial management skills will be strong as will your proven experience of managing large multi-donor budgets and the accurate reporting of these to donors.
