Manager, Research and Advisory Services
BSR
Location: Paris, France
Last Date: January 15, 2011
THE ORGANIZATION
A leader in corporate responsibility since 1992, BSR is seeking a Manager, Research and Advisory Services for its operations in European Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). BSR works with its global network of more than 250 member companies to develop sustainable business strategies and solutions through consulting, research, and cross-sector collaboration. With seven offices in Asia, Europe, and North America, BSR leverages its expertise in the environment, human rights, economic development, and transparency and accountability to guide global companies toward creating a just and sustainable world. Visit www.bsr.org for more information.
POSITION OVERVIEW
BSR is seeking an experienced Manager for its Research and Advisory Services’ practice in Paris. The position is full-time with time split equally between research and sustainability consulting.
The Paris office leads BSR’s efforts to work with corporate BSR members and non-members in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA-region) to develop sustainable business strategies and solutions – and to fulfill BSR’s mission of working with business to create a just and sustainable world. BSR has more than 50 corporate members headquartered in the EMEA-region and many other BSR members have significant presence in the region. In addition, BSR works with governments, bilateral and international organizations such as the ILO and UNEP as well as non-governmental organizations, research institutions and other stakeholders.
BSR’s Research practice identifies emerging sustainability challenges and translates them into opportunities for business. With an aim to produce applied research that can be put into action by business, the Research team delivers expertise on sustainable business through research reports, newsletters, training workshops and virtual events.
The Advisory Services practice works with members and non-members in many different industries, including extractives, consumer products, food & agriculture, transportation, pharmaceuticals, ICT and financial services. It delivers a range of services related to human rights, the environment, economic development, and governance, including strategy support, program development, program implementation support, stakeholder and community engagement, and reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Manager will be responsible for developing research proposals and managing research projects on sustainable business topics that top the agendas of BSR members operating in the EMEA-region. As part of a small but global team of researchers, the Manager will represent the perspective and priorities of the EMEA-region in developing and executing BSR’s research agenda. In addition to publishing research reports, the Manager will be asked to lead relevant internal and external meetings, as well as virtual and in-person events on the topics of his/her research.
In Advisory Services, the Manager will contribute to strengthening and deepening relationships with current BSR members operating in the EMEA-region, as well as recruiting and servicing new members in priority industries. The Manager will likely lead significant work related to BSR’s global leadership initiative on sustainable consumption and production.
The Manager will work with BSR members on an individual and collective basis to ensure that the membership value proposition is met, including through management of specific advisory services projects. This requires close cooperation with other BSR departments, industry practices and regions across the world.
This position represents a unique opportunity for applying skills and interests in both research and consulting while working with leading multinational companies in a truly global organization. By joining now, the Manager will have a unique opportunity to take an active part in and to shape the development and growth of BSR in Europe, Middle East and Africa – and to work with business and other stakeholders to create a more just and sustainable world.
