Background:
American India Foundation (AIF) is the largest diaspora philanthropy
organization focused on India and based out of United States. Since its
inception in 2001, AIF has benefited more than 1.5 million people, by
implementing programs through a national network of more than 115 Indian NGOs.
The mission of AIF is to catalyze social and economic change in India. AIF
mobilizes and invests resources to improve education, livelihoods and public
health for the marginalized in India (see more details at

AIF has always been committed to gender equity in its
programs since inception; to take this commitment to the next level in
its second decade, it has decided to take the necessary actions and
strategic steps. To carry out this resolve for mainstreaming gender in
all AIF programs (especially in signature programs) and
institutional processes (including staffing), AIF is looking for an
expert to serve the organization as a Gender Advisor.
Job Summary:
The Gender Advisor will:
1.
Support AIF and partners to develop, and integrate
gender strategies in all AIF and AIF supported programs through
training, learning and knowledge sharing activities.
2.
Lead and
contribute in gender mainstreaming within the AIF India team and its HR
systems.
3.
Support identification and design of appropriate gender
based indicators to track, ensure and evaluate gender equity outcomes
and results for all AIF programs.
4.
Support the development and roll out of gender sensitive
curricula, training tools, program/project management tools and
results-based frameworks for AIF signature
programs
5.
Undertake
specific research and policy analysis exercise for programme
development on AIF’s priority programme themes (Health, Education, and
Livelihood).
6.
Participate in development of proposals for funding from a gender
perspective.
7.
Identify
needs for capacity building of the AIF programs and partners and
facilitate development of the required skills through capacity building
in co-ordination with program team
8.
Identify best practices and help undertaking
benchmarking research to strengthen gender equity in all program areas
and ensure that such learning contributes to AIF knowledge management
initiatives.
9.
Help AIF Education and Livelihood teams to manage and
report on Mrs. Indravati Sharma Memorial Initiative grant for
expanding opportunities for girls and women.
The Gender Advisor will report to AIF Knowledge Director
in India and will work closely with relevant AIF Program Managers and
other Directors.
Educational Qualifications
A post graduate degree in any of the Social Sciences,
with proven ability in social research and policy analysis and good
understanding of gender issues in India
Work Experience and Skills Required
·
5 years of experience of working with development
organisations of which at least 3 years should be on addressing
gender issues in development programs
·
Experience in supporting or leading mainstreaming
gender in programs and organizations
·
Well developed analytical, conceptual and writing
skills.
·
Experience of capacity building and training
development organisations
·
Good written and spoken English and working knowledge
of one or more Indian languages is essential.
Compensation Package and Working Conditions:
Based on educational qualifications, experience, skills and
performance.
Expected Travel Time:
Up to 10 days a month, depending on program needs
